Posted on 07/14/11 at 03:09 pm in response to Dayton offers to end shutdown by accepting GOP plan -- with conditions

Concerned as I am for Minnesota's public schools, I agree heartily that considering the current group of newbies on the Republican side, compromise is not part of their lexicon ,and this is the ONLY way Dayton can end this disastrous shut-down, and come away with something of worth: the elimination of the social constraints proposed by that crew of neophytes should make good progressives breathe more easily. However, what comes next is of Extreme Importance! In the upcoming session of the...

I just this minute sent my DFL Rep. Denise Dittrich of Champlin AND COON RAPIDS (an official I had here-to-fore supported) a strongly-worded message of dismay and disappointment since she was but ONE OF TWO DFLers to support the amendment vote. As of yet, no reply from her.
I shall make her reply VERY public!

Posted on 04/15/11 at 01:45 pm in response to Budget fix: Minnesota lags behind other states

Again, may we say, "Thanks to Gov. Pawlenty", who has sacrificed the future of this formerly great state for his own putative run for the White House. What a scam-artist!

Maybe this Madison brouhaha will prove to have been somewhat of a blessing in disguise: It is getting many from the middle class finally to TAKE A STAND and to SPEAK-OUT! HOO-RAH!

Posted on 02/14/11 at 12:55 pm in response to The coming boomer bust: Some huge problems facing Minnesota

Demonizing the public school/college system is NOT the solution, nor are public workers the culprit! In fact, it looks like education IS a priority after all...Seems to me that now is the time to find new revenue: the lop-sided income tax rate favoring the wealthy must be changed - and tapped.

"Kudos", indeed...But this is just the Mark Dayton so many of us were convinced we were supporting. Having listened to this speech on MPR, I was taken by Dayton's passion - and the power with which he expressed it...More Power to You, Mark Dayton!

Posted on 08/28/10 at 01:39 pm in response to Pawlenty administration seeks federal school aid after all

It's about time! Wouldn't it be wonderful if our erstwhile governor, Tim Pawlenty, were more concerned about the State of Minnesota and its people - especially our children, than he is about playing the Christian-conservatives' "Name the Presidential Nominee" game?

Obviously #'s 1 and 2 do NOT have children currently in public schools - where class-sizes truly will, and do impact the quality of their learning!
I am particularly seriously worried about those children who are either at the top - or the bottom of the class; those who will be most impacted by, for example, English classes with 34 - 38 students! Having taught for more than thirty years (mostly children with special needs - often accomplished in mainstream classes), I have seen first...

Posted on 08/03/10 at 12:35 pm in response to Erik Paulsen town hall meeting turns testy

I most strongly agree with the two earlier comments: Paulsen has been attempting to ride on Ramstad's reputation as a moderate, but in reality, fits the Palin/Bachmann mode...For shame!

In response to Thomas Swift's comments: Having been a public school teacher in Minnesota for 33 years, it distresses me to hear apparently knowledgeable and concerned people decrying the idea of teacher's unions...
Because I not only survived - but also prospered during those years directly as a result of union support and action, I count myself as a living example of their worth! Beginning with my first assignment in 1959, it was the existence of the union which first granted me not...
