I heard a very interesting commentary that the Romney - Ryan Medicare plan is actually quite similar to ObamaCare, except that Ryan's plan for Medicare includes the more liberal, radical public option now known as Medicare. Essentially, it is a plan to utilize insurance exchanges so individuals can purchase their own insurance and provide subsidies for people to purchase a basic level of insurance. Aaron E. Carroll was the guest; quite interesting.

According to Myron Orfield, the SOS has titled the last 100 amendments going back to 1919, just as the law states is their duty.

I am sure that you do not like this source Mr. Swift, but it seems that if there were other instances where the legislature had created the...

Because the legislature could not do its job, it sticks DEED with this miserable task of selecting projects based on some scoring criteria. Community project proposers put all this work into these proposals, most of which have no shot, because 1) why wouldn't you take a shot and 2) staff are responding to city councils telling them to do so.

I have to assume that some projects are on legislators' priority lists and are almost guaranteed funding (or DEED will pay some price in the...

The Governor has said for a month that he would not accept the tax bill and its impact on the reserve fund and next year's budget. I think that the Governor's backbone only becomes more rigid when the GOP leaders imply that they will leverage the stadium issue to get the tax bill passed.

The GOP should be able to get more than half of what they want from Dayton. But they always seem to want it all. So they get nothing at all which is what they deserve.

It seems to me that people in these small communities might rather have better broadband. $11 billion as subsidies to a dying service as opposed to investment in infrastructure. You could bury a lot of fiber optics connecting these places and positioning them for a better future.

Posted on 04/19/12 at 02:21 pm in response to ‘Beer garden’ may be coming to TCF Bank Stadium

As someone who enjoys both MN beer and Gopher football, in that order!, the beer garden solution is a pretty good compromise. I can anticipate that the garden will be full early during the pre-game, and crazy at half time. The score of the game will determine how busy the garden will be during the 4th quarter.

I hope that there will be multiple locations with adequate capacity so that getting a beer is not a huge wait.

Finally, the Gophers should not sell out to Miller or...

For a party that trusts "the people", they sure are a suspicious group. You would think that the front page of the tax return would be enough rather than all these other required forms. How many people have fax machines at their disposal? I suppose the state fax machines will be humming with long distance calls to their out of state contractor.

The ironic things is that if they find people who should not be receiving family health care benefits and those people need care, the...

Posted on 02/24/12 at 12:09 pm in response to Dayton veto looms over deadly force legislation

What about those of us without guns? If I feel threatened by someone in a Prius tailgating me, can I slam on the brakes of my F-150 to protect myself? How about if I have a Yankees fan behind me at Target Center...can I hit them with a mini-Louisville Slugger? After all, who doesn't feel threatened by a Yankees fan?

The GOP is so concerned about problems that do not exist:
*Voters without ID.
*People protecting their personal safety who are prosecuted for murder....

“It’s not just government’s job to support the things that are necessary,” Howes said at the hearing. “Government also has a role in doing things that also make life more pleasant for people.” Larry Howe

I think that Larry Howe just guaranteed himself a GOP primary battle with a Tea Party member. This kind of talk might just get him kicked out of the GOP!

Still waiting for the voter fraud reward to be claimed. With "thousands" of voter fraud instances documented by Kiffmeyer and crew, you would think the GOP would be out of debt by now.
