I think Tester and Swift missed a few choices people make that make them poor:
The choice to be mentally ill.
The choice to be born with a physical handicap.
The choice to be born to a crack addict.
The choice to be autistic or have some other mental birth defect.
The choice to get lung cancer because you worked in an unregulated industry and suffered asbestos exposure.
Going back to my youth, you could include being born black in the south during...
There will be no proposal that will satisfy Republicans unless it has the potential to limit votes by minorities, the poor, elderly and immigrants. That is the whole point of the amendment proposal. Republicans believe in the will of their party, not the will of the people. Their "theology" is based on worship of money and power under the guise of literal belief in the most nonsensical parts of the Bible. Their weapons are lies, distortion and innuendo.
Wow, spend 600 million dollars so people can see our skyline on tv once a week for 8 weeks a year. That ought to convince people this is a great place to live.
Personally I can't afford a vikings game now and the prices will probably double in the new stadium. What I can afford are things like the bike paths and parks, an occasional play, driving on bridges that won't collapse under me, sending my kids to decent schools - all things alot cheaper than doubling the resale value of the...
Only the 1% or a few people paying cobra-like payments for poor individual coverage get to "fire" their health insurance. The rest of us feel lucky to work at employers who offer coverage.
There are the out and out klan-loving racists and we can all agree on that because those people will proudly proclaim their racist stance. But there is, I believe, a large population of what I would call hidden racists. Some hide their feelings just from others but some, I believe, hide those feelings from themselves. Unless I can't believe my lying eyes, I have seen this often in my life. I hear a guy at work tell a racist joke and defend himself as not racist if I act the least bit...
Paul, your comment about one black parent and the labeling of the children is interesting. One wonders why someone with one black and one white parent identifies as black until he realizes that not that long ago a person with one sixteenth or less "black blood" was considered black and not allowed to vote or marry "white" people or drink out of certain water fountains. The labeling started with "white" people and now the "black" people are wearing that badge with honor. Of course, that's...
I think the people with the deep emotional and mental issues are the religous fundamentalists and their allied haters, bigots and the enablers on the school staffs. If kids are bullied by other kids, the adults can either stop the bullies, expell them, arrest them or enable them. It is obvious in this article that the bullies are being enabled. This shows for me the evil at the heart of the literalist, fundamentalist Christian religion. The rest of the nonreligious haters use this as a...
I believe that if Swift and Tester had kids they'd raise them to hate everything and everyone that Swift and Tester were afraid of or that was different and then they'd call all that hatred "conservative" political philosophy. The only things they wouldn't be brought up to hate were bigotry and hypocrisy because those are the essence of "conservative" political philosophy as those two define it.
Concerning the fact that the Republicans can't even balance their own party books let alone the state or nation, it all comes down to unfunded wars. The national budget would look a lot better if we hadn't been fighting an unfunded was in Iraq for the last 8 years or so, a war started by the Republicans. Over the weekend I saw a quote, I think from Sutton, saying that the Minnesota party debt was due to the unfunded was against Minnesota liberals and the costs of conducting the futile...
Quick! Slash our immoral taxes before the Democrats find a way to spend all that money!
