I thought conservatives believed in absolutes: absolute right and wrong, and thought that relative truths and thinking were moral weaknesses of the left. If international law is whatever the U.S. says it is and the U.S. is guilty of criminal conduct according to that law, then there is no international law.

It is impossible to have a "civilized discussion" when one side refuses to acknowledge any rational acceptance of a truth greater than themselves. I take your listing of these comments and the Eugene gaffe as a way to attack the validity of the claims. I also notice Swift and Tester don't really defend Bachmann directly or refute the responses except to make smirky comments. Hardly civilized discussiion.

I think we could turn Bachmann's logical approach on anybody. We find someone...

Never really thought about Dylan's Newport guitar. I have a couple other examples of famous ones that I would probably place higher: Hendrix's guitar that was burned during Wild Thing at Montery or maybe McCartney's "Beatle Bass" from the first Ed Sullivan appearance. Wouldn't mind Jimi's Woodstock Strat either since it would maybe still be in one piece. Les Paul sn000 would probably top them all.

Well that vote was a surprise to me. Can't wait to hear all of the "constitutional conservatives" spout off about a runaway court or something like that. The court just ruled that "Obama care " is constitutional. Considering how conservative this court has been in recent years, I would have thought the Repubs thought they had this one in the bag. Somewhere I read some comment from a conservative saying yesterday that after the court ruled the health mandate unconstitutional then the...

I think part of the reason for the "hammering" is that the left side of the spectrum fights more with their voices. On the right side it is all hidden, even by their own admission. They have all those massive contributions by their billionaire buddies who are supposedly "afraid" to let their names be know for fear of retribution. So if they did any hammering it was in the form of new seven-figure checks donated to MWHD, Minnesotans Who Hate Diversity.

...kind of don't pass my "ick" test. I think calling these women "sex workers" as if it were a chosen profession gives the situation too much credit. Maybe in some ideal world where adults don't abuse and abandon their children, where poverty doesn't force one to act against their own sense of right and wrong, maybe in some Ron Paul dreamworld, legalizing the sex trade would make sense. I know the anecdotal evidence is that it seems to work in Denmark and Nevada but I have a hard time...

Don,

I always enjoy your lists. They push me to remember. In this case I am remembering a story rather than a list of songs. Here goes:

So Bob Dylan and the Band were downstairs working on the BASEMENT tapes when they decided to take a break. So they went up the STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN and at the top they met the ROOFTOP singers, who were in the living room admiring the majic CARPET (ride). They all decided to go outside and admire the GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME and while in the...

...as long as it opposes something Democrats believe or stand for. I would like to see Mr Bills take one of those tests the Republicans keep talking about to weed out incompetent teachers. This seems to be a case that cries out for correction to the seniority-first system of teacher tenure.

Since his sole selling point is that he is a high school economics teacher, I'm afraid we'll have to be hearing almost daily about his students and all their common sense answers. In keeping...

Where were all these people when that referendum bill was getting passed? It was passed for this specific reason and now they claim it doesn't apply. So depending on what city attorney interprets a law, so goes the law? Why don't they hold a city charter vote on: Do the Minnesota Vikings enhance our quality of life? Then it will be a law and every city that makes it a law can help pay for the stadium.

The Twins have decided to give 40% of their payroll to two players. Even if those two were at the peak of their game this wouldn't be a .500 ball club and never will be with such a lopsided payroll. And since both players are showing they are past their rather short primes this club is in trouble for the next 10 years. Maybe if it were Koufax and Drysdale in '65 you could justify 40% of a payroll going to two players, but not this. I'm glad the Lynx play during baseball season, same for...
