I thought I heard his name in the credits of some sports broadcasts -- the Gophers basketball, I think. I don't now if it was as a producer or a statkeeper or something like that.

I wasn't even aware he'd left KFAN.

I believe Fargo-Moorhead has a lower unemployment rate than the Twin Cities.

What's a "crossover SUV"? Is that something you drive toward the light?

Thanks for this, and thanks to Ed for his work. I would like to see a discussion in journalism circles about Creative Commons. The photog in the Cafe Latte suggested that using it in a CP blog may violate the restriction on commercial use. Does it?

Theoretically, I suppose, that argument would mean that if it's used on any blog that even only has Google ads, there is no Creative Commons applicability.

I always assumed that referred to commercial uses like ... well......

Here's why Osterholm is in the rolodex on this issue.

-1- The CDC usually can't find the cause of salmonella outbreaks. It ends up depending on the Minnesota Dept of Public Health's lab. That's true for THIS national outbreak; it's true for the previous national outbreak.

-2- Osterholm was the guy who built up the DPH lab.

-3- The DPH lab depends on the crew over at the U to conduct the surveys that lead to the source of the contamination (i.e. Team Diarhea)

I was down in Winona today. That campus is right in the middle of town. From what I could tell, having a smoke outside a building there would be as easy as walking across the street.

David: Who got gassed in Boston? The PD there is an old colleague from my Boston days and the nighttime host -- Steve Leveille -- is an college class chum and I can't find who got whacked.

There is another element to the question. In what capacity are you speaking? If it's just as a sports fan, then you can like or loathe an athlete for whatever reason you want. Though I was -- and still am -- a Cleveland Indian fan, I loathed Albert Belle. My colleagues loved him, as long as he hit some jacks with great regularity.

It's the other capacity where the question plays out, however. As a journalist. This week, lots of people are being outed by media for their lawful...

I wish you luck with this thread, my friend. I tried to get into the broader questions that I think you're asking. But it never got past the question of whether Proposition 8 was appropriate or not.

In many ways, the theory seems to be that people should be allowed to engage in the lawful exercise of their citizenry just as other citizens are unless they are engaged in something with which people disagree.

Well, no, staffers can't be happy about it. But that implies an objection and that's not really the case as near as I can tell. We're not stupid. We know the state of the economy. We know the state of the news business and we know the devastating effect of layoffs not only on those inside a newsroom, but on the quality of the product that comes from newsrooms with big cuts.

It's prudent of MPR to anticipate what every rational person knows is going to be a bad year ahead so that it...
