The real issue of "educational reform" when it comes to teachers is to pay teachers less. It is not about reform. If they relay wanted to pay teachers what they are worth they would have to pay more not less. So to those who what less money going to teachers have to convince the public of these lies: lie #1: the system is broken. Kids aren';t learning like they used to because teachers do a lousy job. But no matter how matter how many facts point to early childhood failures in the home...

"Given what I heard a the caucus meeting, Boehner and Cantor might both get primary challengers from tea party candidates in 2012." This is very interesting for future congressional races. If the Republican party splits between moderate and Tea Party, there is an increased chance of Democrats winning those seats. There is typically not enough moderate-right support or extreme-right support alone to win those seats. This exact thing is what put Dayton into the Governorship in Minnesota....

Have you heard the "Meet the Press" segment? She was not answering questions. She was making a speech and using "Meet the Press" as her person media spot. I've heard other politicians weasel around questions before, but no one in my memory comes even close to her blatant ignoring of anything the interviewer had to say. Instead of viewing the questions as a means to convey information of interest to the audience, she instead viewed each question as a green light at a drag race. Another...

David Schultz's summary is the best I've seen in print. I've copied it and pasted it in a file to uses as a response to the crazies who think that cutting income to the state increases income to the state.

Since there is no coming teacher shortage to be seen, this is a lot of noise for nothing.

Except that somehow this smells of cost-cutting or union busting. Probably both.

Seriously, what sense does it make to test kids to determine competence, but not test their teachers to determine their teachers' competence? Likewise, why do we hold a high school diploma in such high esteem that we will not give one to students who do not meet educational standards, but will allow...

Again? Where does this "get rid of the bad teachers, keep the good ones" come from. When surveyed parents in a landslide majority love their school and love their teacher. The bad ones must be the ones they've never seen but only heard about in the school "that other school over there."

Most of the "quality" rhetoric is not about quality, it's about cost. Teachers are hired at a sub-pay scale compared to others with professions with similar educational requirements with the...

Posted on 02/16/11 at 01:03 pm in response to No end of reaction to Dayton's 'taxing the rich' plan

Of course there is a well publicized reaction to Gov. Dayton's plan to increase taxes on the wealthiest Minnesotans. The rich control the message and the means to the message. The guy down the street doesn't have the same clout as the Wall Street Journal. Who is going to get quoted in articles like these? We should not be surprised at a well-orchestrated rebuttal to his plan. This is nothing. Wait until it gets debated in the state legislature. I'm sure the responses have been...

The first I heard of MinnPost was during one of your WCCO radio interviews with one of its writers. I can't remember which journalist you were interviewing, and I was driving, so writing the name down didn't seem like a great idea. But I've come to refer to this site for the news I think I need to know.

And without saying disparaging things about the current WCCO radio host in the afternoon, you are GREATLY missed!

Good to have you Back!

Bill,
I have no idea what you just said. what you said was so indirect it sounded like an inside joke.

Greg,
Agreed. It's always easier to cut "the other guy." Until you get cut, everything else is okay.

By the way, when the recovery finally comes, guess who will get the first dollar: the wealthy, or the poor and middle class?
