I don't think these quilting shop owners need to worry about having their taxes raised.

Every time I have heard the expression "trickle down" over the last thirty years, I have seen the image of a dog and a fire hydrant. To update the image, we might call the dog the 1%, and the hydrant the 99%.

Posted on 10/11/11 at 07:47 pm in response to Another hearing on proposed Ramsey County sales tax hike for stadium

NFL team owners are extortionists who could pay for new stadiums themselves but threaten to move their teams unless communities hand over hundreds of millions of dollars to make the billionaires even richer. The system of extortion exists because politicians don't have the guts to stand up and say no. The way to deal with an extortionist is to say, NO! Just say, NO! There is greater disparity today between the wealthy and the rest of us in this country than at any other time since the years leading up to the Great Depression. There is greater disparity between the wealthy and the rest of society in this country than in any other developed country in the world. The policies that Koch and the Republicans want to implement will deepen that divide.

I am appalled that Republicans will not even consider an increase in the tax rate for the top 2% of...

I am semi-retired. I teach part-time as an adjunct faculty member at a college in the TC. During the summer, I spend most of my days reading and writing. I will not be deeply affected by the shutdown. There are however a lot of very vulnerable people who will be, and I feel deeply the pain they're going to endure.
