MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Check out www.OneMinneapolisOneRead.com to get involved in Minneapolis' first-ever community read. The book is "The Grace of Silence" by Minneapolis native and NPR host Michele Norris.
I was the reporter sent to interview our former colleague Jeanette Trompeter and boyfriend David Azbill. While it was extremely awkward for us to be including a friend and former coworker in our news coverage, please don't forget the real reason this was news: it was a police-involved shooting, and the car thief drove at officers at a high rate of speed, so they shot at him.
In a story like this, we would always seek out the people connected to the stolen vehicle. In this case, we...
I would be interested to know if Tiger Oak has paid off the bill for the titles purchased from Petters. Last I heard, the $250,000 had not been paid in full. That was for the former MMG titles.
I went to HCMC a few years ago for bronchitis. On the forms, they entered my cell phone number and address, but they must have missed a number on my address. Since they couldn't mail the bill without it being returned, they sent it to collections. Isn't it ridiculous that they didn't just try my cell phone number instead of wasting the money and time sending it to collections? This tells me that part of the problem with HCMC's debt is inefficient billing.
I found it infuriating, especially since they didn't explain that very well. I wondered if it was just a mistake--an early version that teases it, then someone was supposed to post it. And no, I didn't buy the paper and I won't. This is backwards--they need to be forward-looking by investing more thought, talent and creativity in their "video" offerings rather than trying to push the print versions. The Strib. has a great opportunity to be a leader in this area, but instead readers just get...
Here are some local implications to note too. Some reporters at KARE (also owned by Gannett) just became one-man-bands. There are others locally too, including some who have been going solo for a decade or more. No question--the job is harder as a one-man-band. That person probably has far less time to do everything, including answering the phone and setting up stories. And, it's a new challenge of coordination for everyone in a newsroom---not just the reporter. Most of the stations have...
