The GOP that claims to be for individual liberty and against government regulation strikes again.
At least this is a potential jobs bill as it will secure more licensing work and cushy state bureaucrat jobs that Republicans usually like to rail against. Individual Catholics may be conflicted as your headline article read yesterday, but their leadership has a firm hold on their own agenda and on the noses of 80 legislators in an even numbered calendar year.

I went to Bacevich's talk at St Joan of Arc where he spoke about the USA Afghanistan policy. Basically his thesis is that Afghanistan, and a weakened Al Qaeda are not a serious threat to the USA and that trying to win the war there is a fools errand as learned by countless imperial fools before this American one.

I dont make sense of Mr Iacano's comment however, with the possible exception of the War of 1812, most every war mentioned was fought with direct sloganeering about...

May I recommend another book..."The Dominion of War-Empire and Liberty in North America, 1500-2000" by Fred Anderson and Andrew Clayton. The authors discuss basically the same theory in the context of American history with emphasis upon the the usage of the third stage as noted by Kinzer. The book is scrupulously documented and focuses on several individuals as chapter topics(Champlaign, Washington, Jackson, Macarthur, etc.) and the relation of the dynamics of the use of military conquest...
