MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.

Select comfort ... is that where rich fatcats and CEOs get bailouts and the rest of us get evicted? True, it doesn't sound very universally comfortable to me.
From Obama to Klobuchar, Democrats have swept into office with vague promises to end war and correct social and economic injustices. Slogans and pretty words aside, we just aren't seeing much effort from Democrats at all. No single-payer option is even being considered. Banks and car companies and high-fliers get bail outs, but people are still losing their homes and small businesses are still closing. It is time for Klobuchar to find some courage, or she can expect a wave of cynicism...
Why, oh why are we spending so much money on a stadium when tuitions are going through the roof, professors are being let go and the entire state is in a shambles? What a waste! All we are missing is the lions and gladiators. And, of course, we are missing the bread that is supposed to go with these circuses. Otherwise, the parallel with the declining Roman empire is almost perfect.
As much as I really dislike Chris Coleman for his support of loose canon Bob Fletcher during the RNC, I really admire Coleman's honesty. He just comes straight out and says that we need to close libraries and rec centers, furlough cops and fire fighters -- and build an expensive ice practice facility across from the Xcel Center. He is really quite frank about his support of the cities biggest corporate interests and his distain of the services that would benefit more people. You certainly...
Making policy may be an impossible task. Fundamentally, the US has run out of money to solve any big problems. Squandered it all away on wars, trinkets and bail-outs for the richest individuals on earth. It would have been great to get a senator with a little imagination and perspective. I am afraid that Al Franken has not campaigned to be that senator.
Frankien's solution to climate change includes more nuclear power and "clean" coal (an oxymoron if there ever was one). We...
In this article, Gaertner describes herself as "tough and decisive." In her email yesterday, begging for money before the refund program ends, she describes herself as a "straight-shooter" and backs up her claim with a picture featuring camo outfits and an enormous weapon.
For me, I would prefer a governor with a bit more sense and a lot less macho, no matter what the gender of the candidate. She will have my consistent opposition until she quite believing cowboy sheriff Bob...
How come you put Ramsey County prosecutor Susan Gaertner in the DFL column? Isn't she a Republican? I thought she worked for right-winger sheriff Bob Fletcher.
So I got a t.v. several years ago when my mother died. It's in the basement. Only now it is apparently totally useless, since the change to digital. Or I suppose I could watch movies on it if I wanted something bigger than a laptop screen. I can't quite figure out why I should spend my money to bring broadcast crap and all that advertising into my home. Enough people yell at me in real life that I don't really need the advertisers doing more of it on my dime.
So here's the deal...
According to legendary investigative reporter Seymour Hersh in an July 7, 2008, New Yorker article, Congress authorized $400 million in late 2007 for covert operations to destabilize Iran. Some of this involves support to Ahwazi Arab and Baluchi groups and other dissident organizations. It would be interesting to discover how much of this money went to create chaos following the recent elections. It would also be interesting if we could track civilian Iranian deaths from marketplace bombs...
Anyone care to compare with Florida 2000 or Ohio 2004?
