Looks like the original "bell" has been re-rung via Gizmodo. But I'm curious though what would the actual standard be within "old school" media for a non-tabloid newspaper or tv news dept to name an individual involved with this kind of issue. It's not like crimes involving a minor so is it enough to go on undisclosed sources or is it waiting for full blown investigation documents that spell out that person's name?

Also find it pretty fascinating how Twitter has become this public...

When Kerri was on the political beat at channel 9 I always thought she was hands down one of their best talents. On par if not better than Kessler or Hauser. You could just tell she knew her stuff and all the different angles of an issue, not just reciting talking points.

My only real complaint about the Midday show sometimes is that occasionally the topics and guests can be extremely boring. I realize that booking a weekday show has to be incredibly challenging but some of the...

Best Buy uses this format at MOA and more stores during the holidays. It works well for a place like this where people aren't usually buying a ton of individual things. At a Target or Cub though it can be a totally different story. I consider myself a seasoned pro now at sizing up people's loads and making an educated guess as to the quickest line but still can get caught up with that inevitable manager question or someone counting out their pennies. One pro I do see to this format is all...

Dayton did the responsible thing in the midst of dealing with people who valued winning political points over being responsible leaders for their state.

I clearly heard republican leaders state after the shutdown was in effect that past deals were off the table and they might demand more concessions. To me this was the most revealing insight that this "grand" old party is actually more willing to gamble big on the backs of the poor and middle class just to ensure the wealthiest don't...

KQ's playlist and their whole morning show sounds really tired and dated now. I love classic rock but there's a lot more out there than just playing Hotel California and Free Bird 10 times a day. They could easily re-brand as an "oldies" station and not change a thing.

Posted on 04/07/11 at 01:20 am in response to Business profits soar, but not much trickles down to unemployed

This is the biggest lie of them all. The core excuse Republicans use to defend tax breaks for wealthy individuals and corporations alike. "If we cut their taxes, they'll create jobs!"
No they don't, they save it for themselves and figure out how to get the same work done with less people. Every city in America is shooting each other and themselves in the foot by competing on who can offer the best tax-free deal to get them to build their next store, headquarters, plant in their town...

Posted on 04/05/11 at 08:03 pm in response to Star Tribune web redesign: Open thread

Feels like someone opened a window and bunch of clutter and junk just blew away. Format looks very similar to Tribune owned sites like the L.A. Times which I thoroughly enjoy as far as surfing experience. Haven't explored much yet but I wish advertisers were discouraged from using gawdy hot pink like ads. It detracts from the site and no, it does not grab my attention in a positive way and "make me want to learn more" Rather I want to do the polar opposite of engaging it. That said though...

I'd like to see Jan Grehl pick up her office and work here full time during our winter months and then call them an outdated fad.
As for Rybak, I think this guy sometimes puts utopia design things like artistic water fountains over practicality of the times.

The same outside vibrancy that exists during the summer which I see plenty of by the way, exists almost exactly the same during the winter, just one floor up. Yeah it may be more point A to B oriented but it's basically...

I am not opposed to cuts in government, but cuts should be the end result after a comprehensive audit. Would be curious to see how much savings we could get right off the bat on duplicate/redundant processes and administrative bloat before even beginning to dive into the political debates of should govt provide "service X" to the public.

Also I think to add a touch more realism to this game, when I check marked the 10.95% bracket someone like Tony Sutton should have appeared in a pop-...

I used to try to catch the local shows on a pretty regular basis probably 10 years ago, now it seems I'll tune in only if there's some major local story. I watched that whole lead up week simply for the nostalgia fix with Miles, Needles and Douglas. They all still had that touch. Also really struck me how the whole market back then really had this wealth of talent and now seems especially at some shops, the standards have dropped noticeably. Personally I think Julie Nelson has a more to do...
