MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
While it will take others to figure out if these donations are illegal or not, it should be noted that Reynolds American is TOBACCO money. Very disappointing that either party would accept money from Big Tobacco, given that smoking related illness cost our state nearly $3 billion in healthcare costs. We all pay the price!
Thanks for taking the time to bring this issue to light. I can't imagine why anyone responsible for children's programming would feel it necessary to include smoking, cigarettes or any reference to tobacco that gives it legitimacy.
Tom Burnett's character and sacrifice are honored and discussed in Bloomington throughout the year, not just on September 11th. His high school classmates sponsored a large rock with an inscription of one of Tom's quotes and it sits atop the hill overlooking the Bloomington Jefferson football field and track. Every Jefferson student knows of Tom Burnett, the Burnett family and Tom's sacrifice. Our middle schools have done a great job of embedding his story into our character education....
Bloomington's City Council said no to a Super Target in 2008. Target campaigned for more than a year, but traffic, neighborhood concerns, railroad tracks and the preservation of nearby neighborhood retail carried the day. Saying "no" can be done!

Robert Cummins' history of funding extreme conservative candidates goes back at least to 1995.
Steve, There was a condo thing and a book deal. But there was no limo thing. Further, U.S. Senator Dave Durenberger did not resign, he filled out his term and retired in 1994. He did not avoid an investigation. He was censured. There was nothing more to unearth, but he remains one of Minnesota's last hardest working, thoughtful public servants.
Les Fujitake is a great asset to Bloomington and its schools. Finally, some people with knowledge in the field get a chance to solve problems. How refreshing!
Far and away, Lizz is one of the hardest-working, intelligent ambassadors of our great state. Glad to see that through experiencing her workshop, you gave her credit where credit is due, for success in a very competitive field. No Lizz, no Daily Show. The world would be a less funny place.
This news needs more recognition than Minnpost has given it. Chief Justice Gildea has taken a solid and important step to preserving the integrity of the branch of government for which she is responsible. In doing so, future important cases that come before the court will be less susceptible to criticism and cronyism.
Call it refreshing. Call it having people in public service doing their jobs.
