When Brubeck played Orchestra Hall in 2008, there were tornado warnings in the metro area. So he started the show with 5 or 6 storm-related standards,. Great spontaneity
As GKeillor said, there's more to be nostalgic about than ever before
great piece; it will provide encouragement to some. M. Howard had a very funny local TV sports show back in the late 89s-early 90s, with Mark Zelenovich. also had an interview show with Frank Quilici called "the Q and I"
One great line from the '70s was his description of the audience at a rock concert -- a lot of "Farrah Fawcett Minors." and the guy screaming in his ear at a Bonnie Raitt concert
Dark managed to sneak into the radio business before CCO's corporate takeover. His weirdness made him interesting -- a guy who played Elmore James bumper music and played golf with millionaires. KFAN's Common Man is another original who would have trouble making it past the corporate gatekeepers who favor cookie-cutter radio.
Also, describing the local TV sportscasters as "personalities" is quite a stretch.
only people who own private jets consider Eau Claire "local."
Joe Dimaggio's first wife was from Duluth. So he was a sort-of Minnesotan.
the film didnt show it, but Ray had a great, eccentric R&B band called Snake, for a couple years in the late '70s. In the '90s he was also part of a great band called Blackburn Beach.
If there is a Berryman ghost, look for one wearing an overcoat. It was bitterly cold the day he jumped into the river, something that made his choice even more incomprehensible. (he didn't strike me as a ski-jacket type).
I think 1961 was the worst season (not that anybody else remembers it.) The baseball scrapbooks I carefully assembled using flour paste turned to mold. The league was full of other terrible teams like the Senators, Angels and KC A's. The baseball cards that season were ugly and I had about 7 or 8 Don Mossi cards. But I was just a kid. What did I know?
could be the next hot band in the "Ironic Country Music Played by Urban Hipsters" category.
