No more talk about a "thousand points of light" and how churches, foundations, and individuals would step in to make up for cuts in government programs. Just cut and slash without regard to its effect on those with the greatest need. Where is the appeal to any moral or spiritual value to helping one's neighbor?

Google and Wikipedia are your friends! I wondered too, and highlighting "bakfiet"
and searching in a new tab, found out that it's a specially designed bicycle/tricycle
used for hauling freight in the Netherlands, and in Europe in general.

They're retired because they're so far out of the mainstream of their own party they know they have no future?

The Commission on Presidential Debates of course! The Democratic and Republican parties
took over the debates to control (exclude) who would be in them. The LWV let in third party
candidates much to the dismay of the big two.

I heard Governor Romney say last week in an NPR story that he wants
to put people back to work so they can pay taxes! Shocking! Explain
that one to the base.

My own experience applies to proving who you are, but not for voting. A number of years ago
when I was on the MinnesotaCare medical insurance plan and had to provide proof of citizen-
ship to renew my coverage. I was born in what was the Belgian Congo, and would have had
to applied for a birth certificate through the State Department or other federal department. A
passport would be acceptable, but I didn't have one in possession since my college days. For-

"from each according to his ability to each according to his needs"

Maybe this idea came from the New Testament?
There's the parable of the three servants in
Matthew 25:14-30 and Luke:11-27. Later in Acts
2:43-47 and 4:32-37 the believers held and
distributed possessions in common.

Ray (#4) you make the point that it's taken us
30 years to get into this mess--slowly dismantling regulations and the rest of it. Turn it around in
less than 4 years? Most presidents plan on 8 to accomplish anything. Might take another 30 to undo
the damage done already, I regret to say.

Posted on 06/08/11 at 01:17 am in response to Pawlenty budget plan: Fewer tax brackets and 'Google test' cuts

Cutting taxes at the highest income levels and extending
those cuts? Isn't that supposed to be creating jobs? Seems
most job creation lately is in the service sector or
sending them offshore where labor is cheap. At least Henry Ford recognized that he needed to pay his workers a decent
wage so they could afford to buy one of his vehicles. How
many wage earners working at Walmart or McDonalds will
it take for a family to afford to buy a hybrid or electric...

My mistake, #13 for the list, not #5. Single-payer
for MN!!
