MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Ha ha! to the "poll dancer" typo. I don't
know if it includes political pollsters,
but Survey Researchers for MN top out
at $76,300 (10% more, 90% less), median at
$54,000, and low at $30,200 (10% less, 90% more). Actually better pay for the middle and low scale in MN than nationally. Market
Research Analysts do much better from
$108,300 - $69,300 - $43,900.

If Rep. Emmer ran a delicatessen your sandwich
would have very thinly sliced baloney, er, uh,
bologna.
To Karen S: You may not be too far off. Try a Google
search on "minneapolis st. paul street car history"
and you'll find it was alleged that G.M. had a hand
in dismantling the street car system here. You can
still ride a preserved street car at Lake Harriet in
Minneapolis.
I commute by bus to work downtown, and walking from
my stop to work on 4th Avenue past the Hennepin County
Gov't Center I have to dodge around news vehicles (TV, typically)...

Freedom? How about including Richie Havens?
What a spontaneous riff that was!
A number of things to note here: Looking at last year's form vs this year's, my federal tax went from $340 to $13; EIC from $2,472 to $62 (my daughter is out of college and living at home); the child tax credit is gone for a number of years because of her age. I did benefit from the "making work pay" for 2009. According to the tax program I use, my nominal federal rate is 10%, effective rate 0. I filed both federal and state electronically and received direct deposits for them in about a...
Was it back in 2003 (or after) when Medicare recipients had to choose a medical and drug plan? I helped a family member
and the choices were mind-numbing. I recall that there were
plans from out of state as well as plans based here in MN.
If that's what's being touted as an "exchange" I'm not
favorably impressed. Too many choices, too confusing.
In an effort to contribute something to a civil insurance
debate, I'll say that I generally agree with Governor Pawlenty's 5th point in the Washington Post piece (point
3 in this article); finding ways to deal with job-switching, portability, preexisting conditions, and job loss. I see an HSA as a solution only for those able to put money aside for that.
I'm skeptical about exchanges, point 4 in the WP article. Has anyone here helped someone select a Medicare drug plan?...
So, where are the incensed "tea party" proponents over the
"death panels" now?
Speaking of cowboy movies, researchers "across
the pond" found that found people react faster when reacting to an action than the one initiating the action. See the story here:

What did Jesus do? He threw the money changers and
profiteers out of the temple. I'm guessing they'd
have been thrown out of Wall Street too.
