Peder, I guess I can give you credit for citing a link in this comment, as opposed to the unsupported and erroneous claims in your first comment that Nutting attributes the stimulus to Bush (he doesn't) or that the stimulus spent $800 billion (it was only around $500B - the rest was tax cuts). Unfortunately, the article you cite isn't any more accurate.

The article makes two arguments in recalculating spending by each president. First, that Nuttig should have adjusted for inflation...

If you are going to make this about the history of marriage, don't you actually need to look at the history? Especially if you are going to accuse others of ignorance?

There are cultures (Rome, China) that recognized same sex marriages thousands of years ago. Just are there have been numerous cultures that recognized plural marriages (which some still do). For most of history, the concept of marriage was just about economics - women were treated as property to be traded or given...

For what its worth, my wish would actually be that same sex marriage be both legal and universally accepted right now. But my point about it being universally accepted 20 years from now is not based on wishes, but on the growing support for same sex marriage over the last 20 years and the fact that this growth correlates with age, with younger people being much more supportive.

Neal, I realize that you are fond of dropping obscure religious terms in lieu of coherent arguments, as...

In order to call alternative therapies bogus, don't you have to at least do the research showing that they are bogus? Sure, there are some people you just can't reach - some people just don't let facts and science play a role in their beliefs. But for those who are guided by science and by facts, and will change their minds when shown evidence, you actually have to show them the evidence.

I like Mayor Coleman. I have voted for him twice and even contributed to his campaigns. But the idea that building a 50 million dollar stadium for the Sants is the City's number one legislative priority just makes me depressed.

I don't think there is any real dispute that subsidizing stadiums is a poor use of public money from an economic development standpoint. As a sports fan, however, I see it as a necessary evil to prevent teams from moving to other cities that are offering...

"The Saint's current stadium is old and decrepit and must be replaced soon."

Fair enough, but why do we have to spend $50 million dollars in public money to subsidize the millionaire owners of the Saints? Why can't they privately finance it?

"Locating the new stadium near the Union Depot/lightrail terminus will bring easy access to Saints fans, high school teams and tournaments, and other activities year-round."

The idea that this is necessary or will even benefit...

Good riddance. The first time I heard her show I was shocked that someone who came across as so intelligent and nice in her sports work could be such an ignorant, nasty piece of work when it came to politics.

Mr. Nickitas (#11): Ms. Hawkins isn't sowing division - she is reporting on the division that exists. The fact is that a number of gay rights groups think this lawsuit is a bad idea, and will undermine the effort to defeat the marriage amendment. Put simply, by bringing this lawsuit, they think you are actually hurting the cause. In addition to the bad strategy, I expect that they aren't too happy about the issue being champtioned by an attorney who has been suspended in both Wisconsin...

Mr. Nickitas:

You really just don't get it, do you. Let me spell it out:

First of all, I wholeheartedly support marriage equality. I believe that same-sex couples should have all the legal rights (including marriage) that opposite-sex couples do. I would legalize gay marriage tomorrow if I could.

The groups cited in the article that do not support your lawsuit - OutFront Minnesota, Project 515 and the Family Equality Council - are, in fact supporters of same-sex...

To characterize Carter's position on the Cosetta's issue as "look[ing] the other way" is both inaccurate and unfair. Cosetta's is a pizza restaurant, and while a significant number of its employees do earn the equivalent of the living wage, ultimately it can't afford to pay every one of its employees that much with that kind of business. I would have like to have earned $13 per hour when I washed dishes in high school, but that simply was not realistic. While the living wage ordinance is...
