"my opponent claimed"

I don't believe we're past the filing period yet and we're a long way from endorsement. It's a little early to think this person will be the ultimate Democratic party candidate. I should file just to see if I can get my name in a Bachmann fundraising letter. I'd frame it and show it to all my friends.

Nobody should be allowed to sell cadmium or mercury to anyone without a permit. These materials are toxic to all humans, not just children. It may be time to start fining retailers. That will be the only way to get them to clean up their supply chain. If the price of costume jewelry goes up 10%, so be it. In the mean time I've had to tell my daughter I won't buy her any costume jewelry.

Romney actually is Mormon. Santorum and Gingrich actually are Catholic. Are you asserting that if the media brings up your favorite candidate's religion then it is okay to assign whatever religion you like to the other side despite their actual beliefs?

It is interesting that right-wing evangelical protestants who use religion as a litmus test are having such a hard time finding a candidate to support because the only protestant in the race is Barack Obama. This seems to be so hard to...

Posted on 03/14/12 at 10:44 am in response to Five things they're not telling you about the Vikings stadium

The public collects income taxes on highly paid NFL personnel that they would not otherwise collect if there was no NFL football in Minnesota. NFL payrolls have increased substantially - up to $120M recently - and show no signs of slowing down. We're essentially taking TV advertising dollars and monetizing them into MN tax revenue streams. Without a stadium we don't get that money. Whether access to that revenue stream is worth the expense is another question.

They won't collect income taxes if the Vikings move. I don't see that as a likely near-term scenario but they won't stay in Metrodome forever.

Guarantee him a half hour speech at the convention. He's only in this to hear himself talk.

Good to see Dayton pay attention to law enforcement, especially after a shooting of an officer in Lake City. Sometimes a veto means you end up passing a better law that all parties find acceptable.

"phase out statewide business property taxes"

Are they also phasing out business fire and police protection, business snow removal, business road repair, and putting additional surcharges on water and sewer?

$975M, estimate a 40 year lifespan, 10 football games a year - works out to $2.4M per football game. The public is on the hook for $1.4M per game before operating expenses.

Median NFL payroll is currently $110M and the state collects taxes on NFL players that they wouldn't collect if the players were somewhere else. That's $8.6M a year in just income taxes at the current 7.85% top marginal rate. NFL payrolls are growing rapidly ($20M a team in 1990, $60M in 2002 from various sources I...

So why add more government bureaucracy on top of the voting process?

Posted on 02/22/12 at 01:41 pm in response to Bachmann not pleased with 'liberal courts' on redistricting

From what I read in other reports the bridge issue has to be settled by March or go through the process all over again. Either Bachmann gets the approval now or the funds will be used elsewhere.
