It is deeply offensive to me that only one Republican legislator saw fit to attend. It has never been more clear that the GOP cares more about winning than governing. Shame on them.

Time to call my legislators.

Absolutely not. No Legacy funds for a stadium. Unbelievable.

The threat to move the team is utterly bogus, at least for a decade or more. We should be deciding the issue on its own merits only, independently of any notion that they will move. Negotiation by thuggery is not negotiation in good faith.

Austerity is something the Republicans think others should do, not themselves. No Republican president has balanced the budget since, what, Eisenhower? I repect the concerns about deficit spending, but loathe the hypocrisy.

We often hear about efforts to raise awareness among bystanders (parents, educators, students) about the need to act and what to do when bullying occurs.

While such initiatives have value and should continue, they sidestep a core truth: the person in the best position to prevent the bullying is the person who is doing the bullying. We must devise an effective approach that persuades those who bully to stop the behavior and be accountable for their actions.

#1 I saw plenty of sessions in the MEA conference guide devoted to helping all students achieve and graduate, including one specifcally devoted to increasing graduation rates for all groups. Not sure you actually looked at the guide.

#2, You worked so hard to slam the left that you managed to assert that felons should be given easy access to private financial data so they can commit more crimes.

I expect Whitney will now suffer the punishment handed out to other moderate Republicans like Arne Carlson and Dave Durenberger who have spoken out against the New GOP's extreme candidates and positions. Little or no disagreement or healthy debate seems to be allowed in the GOP anymore. Most unfortunate, and a real loss...

"You don't see many laws that return $30 dollars to taxpayers for everyone dollar invested."

Sorry, but this is a very broad, throw-away statement without citing evidence to back it up.

Let us not forget the link between the Clean Air Act and crime prevention!

There is a well-documented link between the regulation of lead pollution in the air and a subsequent drop in crime. The introduction of unleaded gasoline and tailpipe emission standards reduced lead poisoning. Lead poisoning has serious effects on brain function, especially for children. Poisoned children can, and many do, develop criminal behavior when they become adolescents and adults.

Ray #10, sorry, I did not communicate clearly. I was not speaking of the return on investment mentioned for this program, I meant the flip assertion that government programs rarely show a good ROI.

As an example, NASA's moon program gave us the microchip--an invention of immeasurable value. I do not suggest that economic benefit should be the only reason for government to spend money, but that my impression is that goverment programs often do produce an excellent return in social and...
