Great, but what IS Bachmann's plan to get gas below $2 per gallon? All these are guesses, and the comments from the readers comment on the guesses. I, for one, wouldn't hold her to it. If she comes close $2, I'm happy. All the candidates, including the president, will make promises that they will not keep.

The "cuts only debt ceiling deal" merely slowed (barely) the rate of increase of spending; it did not actually cut spending. This "deal" will add a net $7 trillion to our debt over ten years. It can hardly be called "austere". The market plunged over the next few days due to economic news and debt woes in Europe, as well as due to the uncertainty of the impact of the S&P downgrade of U.S. treasuries, not solely because of the "debt ceiling deal". It seems odd to try to de-couple policy from the budget anyway. In so many (not all) instances, policy drives costs. We (and our children) deserve a return on our investment in education in the form of students who can read, write, solve problems and think critically.

Why is the Federal government subsidizing air travel to regional airports anywhere? Why is it essential?
