Posted on 01/23/11 at 09:35 am in response to Journalists: please catch Bachmann's false statements on the trail

Politifact list 3 pants on Fire Lies by our president, 43 just plain lies, 36 barely true, and 63 half true. Of the 70 'true' statements listed, some are as innocuous and irrelevant as 'covering your mouth when you cough can reduce flu transmission', and the 'White Sox can still make the playoffs'.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I can't seem to find a call by Mr Brauer for better fact checking analysis of President Obama, whose statements as the sitting president are of several orders...

Posted on 01/13/11 at 11:46 pm in response to The Star Tribune's op-ed lineup turns rightward

All of the commenting by liberals bemoaning the rightward tilt of the Strib glosses over the one sure fact-the Strib needs to sell papers and ads to stay in business.

The op/ed section is (supposed to be) the one section where the editors can manage the content to increase readership, whether online or in print. It is also the one section where the editors need to respond to what their readers want. If that means a right ward tilt (though my opinion would be that it will be less...

I am a strong second amendment supporter and NRA member, but even I have to scratch my head at the 'usefulness' of a 33 round magazine for a pistol.

That being said, a pistol is not an assault weapon. The very term comes from the military, in that some weapons are better than others for assaulting a target. For example, while in Iraq, I spent 16 months carrying a 9mm Beretta, M-4, and 12 gauge shotgun. The M-4 is a true 'assault weapon', the shotgun was mainly defensive, and the...

The reading of the Constitution (yes Dan, David and Greg, here in America it is Constitution with a capitol C out of respect) was a poignant and timely reminder that this is the document which we base our government from.

The last Congress seemed to forget this, evidenced by their passing of a major bill which in itself violates the very principles of the Constitution. And it is a reminder to the new GOP majority not to repeat the mistakes of the '94 revolution, i.e. that...

Couldn't agree more with the comment above. It is impossible for 'market forces' to have any effect against a monopoly.

Unfortunately, both parties must agree to revisit the gaming compacts, and the only thing likely to motivate the Indian tribes to come to the table is the imminent passage of a Racino bill.

No Thomas, they are right. Tom Emmer's view on the Arizona immigration law is clearly out of the mainstream of Minnesota's liberal elite. Luckily he wont need the liberal elite to be elected.

Rep Peterson didn't have a differing conservative view from the GOP, he went 180 degrees against conservative principles and voted for higher taxes, more government, and an expansion of the great social experiment of mass transit. He voted himself out of the tent, and still claims to not understand what he did that was wrong. And it was the conservatives in his district that decided not to support his re-election, not the GOP.

If Doug Grow had even a faint understanding of how...

"It's really surprising when you think of the Twins, who aren't known for spending money," Neshek said. "But this facility is great."

The Twins are not known for spending their own money. But when the taxpayers shell out for a stadium, then they spare no expense.

Anger or fear?

Which emotion was the left playing to in 2004, 2006, and 2008 during the elections? was it fear of George Bush or anger over his policies?

I would say 2008 pretty well nullifies the results of the study.

"Do they choose the anger and hate of the blossoming Tea Party movement"

It is hard to reconcile that statement with the author who calls himself a political 'moderate'.
