You're making a false assumption that marriage rights are a zero sum game.

The supposed benefits to children are not harmed by the existence of same sex marriage anymore than they are by the existence of infertile or childless by choice couples of the opposite gender.

“It puts parents and pastors in a difficult situation when they teach the truth of marriage at home and in church, but then their kids are taught something entirely different at school. This undermines parental rights and causes confusion for children."

One problem with this line of argument is that it applies to anything: evolution? Blood transfusions? Inter-racial or inter-faith marriages? The list is endless.

If your values are really that fragile, perhaps you should be home...

What does her political party affiliation (if any) have to do with this?

When they voted on this (and on the voter restriction amendment) theMNGOP insisted this was non-partisan.

Given the ubiquity here of the other Thomas Swift, I'm surprised Minnpost didn't include some kind of disclaimer.

This Tom Swift is the author of "Chief Bender's Burden," (about the Minesotan American Indian hall of Fame pitcher).

I'm sure that Thomas Swift has given Tom no small amount of heartburn.

But I doubt we agree on which half they were alienating.

I dropped my subscription after they hired the conservative hack Niall Ferguson.

(and of course, the photoshopped "Diana at 50" cover story really had no political leanings. It was just horrid)

Brodkorb didn't say anything we didn't already know, and wasn't said by us at the time of the legislative vote.

And the Republican party would be virtually extinct without the Southern Racist White vote, which admittedly, until Johnson signed the Civil Rights act, largely voted Democratic (note the proper form of the name). Although I will aver that, since Nixon, it is the Republicans that more actively pander to them.

So it's a wash, I guess.

for the umpteenth time, you have no evidence to back up your claim.

Posted on 10/16/12 at 01:24 pm in response to Many Christians do not see same-sex marriage as an issue of 'fairness'

A profound ignorance of evolution and natural selection.

First, it assumes homosexuality is, in fact "harmful to a species as a whole," which is not proven at all.

The demonstrated existence of same sex pairings among numerous extant species would suggest it is not.

Second, even if it WERE proven, 1) biological history is full of examples of evolutionary dead ends, and 2) the genetic history of every species has examples of deleterious traits that persist in its genome...
