MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
I'm personally not very optimistic about the vote.
There almost certainly is some degree of the "Wilder effect," for one. Secondly, I think that among those that oppose marriage equality, the issue matters a whole lot more to more of them than the issue matters most supporters of equality.
Regardless, I suspect that within 10 years SCOTUS will issue a decision comparable to "Romer," "Loving," and "Lawrence" that will nullify all state constitutional bans on marriage equality...
We kind of have been the last few days, and Romney's getting trounced. A Gallup poll showed 29% less likely and only 15% more likely to vote for Romney based on his 47% comment. Meanwhile, a Reuters poll ( http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/09/19/us-usa-campaign-poll-idUSBRE88... ), 43% viewed Romney...
Then the Catholic Church is even more lost than I imagined.
Every religion, has as it's core some version of the Golden Rule. I'd argue recognizing that fact will actually put you (and civilization) on the right road.
The rest is just fluff.
"In no time at all, every conservative commentator had been either banned, or simply quit."
Perhaps that says more about conservative commenters than the host site.
No, I'm more than willing to engage with conservatives. And Minnpost has made it clear that is desired and encouraged.
It just has to be done without insults and thread-jacking.
If conservatives are unwilling or unable to do so, I won't miss them in that case. There's plenty of other places I can go if I'm in the mood for that.
There were also a slew of swing state state polls released today, showing Obama with a healthy lead: 14 points in Wisconsin, and 8 points in Michigan.
Interesting tidbit in Wisconsin is that 55% still primarily blame Bush II for the condition of the economy, while less than 35% blame Obama.
I don't disagree with your overall point, but I always viewed the Puritans as a pretty austere bunch.
What you're describing seems more of the so called "Prosperity Gospel" evangelical churches. A pretty twisted reading of Jesus' teachings.
Of the 47% that don't pay income tax, the vast majority are senior citizens and the disabled receiving social security. Most of the rest are working poor making so little they wouldn't pay income taxes, even if you took away things like the EITC (but they still pay payroll taxes, as well as other taxes such as sales, property and excise).
But Romney's biggest mistake is conflating that 47% as being identical to Obama's 47% of the voters. I work, I pay income taxes (and at a higher...
No, it wasn't recorded by James Carter (I doubt he'd even be let into the same room as Romney). Carter tracked down the person (as yet, unidentified) that recorded it, and persuaded that person to release it.
And of course, the video has also energized the Democratic base as well. And, I suspect, turned off an awful lot of the independent voters Romney needs to win. You don't let slip your utter contempt for 50% of the country without it hurting you. Especially against as skilled a...
Sure, like a completely unscientific internet poll means anything.
The right wing is spinning desperately.
