MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
I have to agree with Eric. Too many buzzwords like "strategic framework," "redesign," "empower." What year is this, 1999?
Just tell us what we already know: this means layoffs.
Disclaimer: I'm 110% against a public subsidy for this stadium.
However, I have several problems with this article.
(1) If the Vikings don't build a stadium at the TCAAP site, NOTHING WILL EVER BE BUILT THERE. Have you seen it? It's a giant piece of polluted land that will cost buku bucks to fix. Either the Vikings do it or it sits vacant and polluting forever. This is the one chance to reclaim that land.
(2) Please get over the whining about public transit. It is...
I like the message that Eric Black conveys, but I dislike the flippant, cloying style of his writing. It's like chatting on IRC with a basement-dwelling teen. Yes, IRC still exists.
Anyway. Regarding Mittens...why hasn't anyone pointed out all that he's accomplished in the last five years? Like, running for president for five years. And that he's "spent his life" in the private sector -- except for the four years he spent as governor, in the pubic sector.
And finally. He...
Koch and Zellers "support" a referendum because it allows them to avoid taking a position on a tax increase. In reality, they both would love nothing more than to see a Vikings stadium paid for by people who can't judge them at the ballot box. Everybody's happy!
Lost in all of this, and something that no journalist has ever mentioned (to my knowledge) are the downsides of having Ramsey County pay for it. Doug Grow does mention that they're asking three times as much money in sales...
"A few more reasons why no team will move to LA."
You forgot the most important reason. LA is the threat. It can be used by any team: build us a new stadium or we'll go to LA! But if any team really DID move to LA, that threat is vanquished.
Of course Valencia will be shopped. He's our only infielder who can hit the broad side of a barn. Hell, he's got 70 RBI (best on the team). That's too much for Gardy. To be a Twins infielder, you aren't allowed to hit over .220 or have more than 30 RBI.
Thank you, Thomas Swift, for the total non-sequitur. Nothing at all to say about this article and how too-fair it was. Only thing you can come up with is a snide comment about Senator Franken, complete with condescending quote marks.
Franken got 42% of the vote in 2008. I think even you would agree that Bachmann couldn't come anywhere near that had she been running.
The Mauer debacle was predicted by many pundits. The Twins were screwed no matter what they did. They'd have been booed endlessly had Mauer left. So they signed him for silly money and they're paying the price, so to speak. The best they could've hoped for was superstar production from Mauer, which would have at least made it look like a decent investment. Obviously that has not materialized and probably never will.
The Twins may be a mediocre team for years, but the owners won't...
It's probably legal to look at porn on library computers. But I don't think that matters. My approach would be to shame people into not doing it in a public place like this. Make them feel uncomfortable for doing it. But then, do library porn users have any shame? Obviously not.
If I were in Lars's position, I probably would just not bring my child to the library. My kid doesn't need to see that. I wouldn't sue the library or raise a huge fuss or anything; we'd just avoid the...
The person with that sign says it all. It just says everything about the state of our politics. How do you argue with that? How do you convince someone with a viewpoint that is so ridiculous, hyperbolic, irrelevant, non-sequitur, strawman?
The answer is, you don't. There is simply no way to work with someone who has such a completely left-field system of beliefs. The only thing we can do is figure out how to marginalize and ultimately defeat these troglodytes. Unfortunately, due...
