MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
It's because most people, particularly the stadium supporters, are uneducated. The same principle applies to the climate change debate.
They disregard facts, data, and research, because they "just know" what happens. They "just know" there stadium will be an economic boon. They "just know" humans aren't responsible when it's 80 degrees on St Patrick's Day in Minnesota. Their heart tells them what's true.
Reality has a well-known liberal bias.
"I think the majority [of people] ..." Bakk said.
"I think the message most [legislators] are getting ..." Sviggum said.

Do EITHER of these guys have ANY evidence to support these claims? Or is it just that they themselves want a stadium, so they're assuming and saying that everyone else does?
Alice Hausman is probably right.
"Those two experiences do suggest that ... Minnesota is very evenly divided politically in state races."
I disagree. Al Franken was a rather weak candidate. Coleman even said that a better candidate would have beaten Normie by a landslide. Obama won Minnesota 54-44; that does not suggest "evenly divided."
In the 2010 governor race, we had yet another very strong third-party vanity campaign, creating yet another very close outcome between the top two candidates.
Wait a second. A high school econ teacher running for office? Aren't his students being indoctrinated?
Why would Target -- a fiercely competitive retailer battling Walmart AND the internet -- want to chain a giant albatross around its neck? They would not only be taking on a vast array of little-used brick-and-mortar real estate, but also a giant HQ and thousands of employees who would soon be made redundant. At least Target probably has a decent future, despite Wally-World and online shopping. They sell things that people NEED, as opposed to the BBY business model of selling things that...
In theory I'm sure the aforementioned LA Coliseum or the Rose Bowl would be willing to work with the Vikings. This is assuming they'll move, which they won't.
So what was Goodell saying at the Super Bowl -- that only an expansion team would go to LA? Was he lying?
So where are the Vikings going to play? The only stadium they have is the Metrodome. Are they going to play in a parking lot somewhere?
By the same token, I don't think one can overestimate the degree to which Morrie Lanning is a scoundrel. He has shown that he's more than willing to spend tax dollars that are NOT generated by his own constituents.
I suppose it's interesting trivia to know that they favored a form of a mandate, but in the context of healthcare in 2012, it's irrelevant. More importantly, it won't make a lick of difference to the hypocritical and committed ideologues on the supreme court.
I frankly don't give a flying fortress what the constitutional framers wanted. There is no way they could have seen what American society would be like 225 years into the future. The constitution is a good starting place, but...
