Minnesota is losing a good man. I am sorry he is moving on, but I am glad we had the opportunity to call him a Minnesotan. He is a class act!

Posted on 03/15/13 at 01:02 pm in response to An inside view of a top-notch early childhood education program

Children are born to learn, however if not stimulated, children lose this ability. For some children in a day care situation that 'babysits' more than teaches or guides, these children fall behind. If we wait for preschool screening (usually given age 2 1/2 to 3 years of age) such children are found to be lacking in simple skills that are being taught to children before age 1. Sadly, the statement "50 percent of Minnesota children begin kindergarten not primed to learn" talks about these...

Posted on 03/12/12 at 01:00 pm in response to ‘John Carter’ is all wrong

Catherine,
i love to read any article you write and while i have never read The Princess of Mars, i too, have watched these movie trailers for John Carter and wished they would go away. another movie about transformers (as you mentioned) or other worldly beasts. now i have discovered another book for my must read list. good job of taking us all back to our childhoods and the reading we would discover on Grandma and Grandpa's cabin shelves. although, it took me a moment to realize what...

Posted on 02/29/12 at 01:32 pm in response to Metrodome district, part 2: Souvenirs, a museum and other hidden gems

when you posted Metrodome District Part 1- i wondered if Part 2 would include the strange but beautiful domicile i once found a few winters ago when i was hunting for a a parking spot on the street. i fell in love with this home in the middle of a warehouse district. i thought about what story could this building tell, for quite a while and then-Bazinga! MinnPost had linked the story of the building and the owner.
and now, i thank you, Andy. Jeff Arundel is a fortunate person to live...

Posted on 01/13/12 at 02:40 pm in response to Adieu from Max

dear Max, am very sad you are leaving, but happy for your new adventures in LaLa land. please keep us uprised of you and (one assumes)Coco's lives out west. Three Cherry Cocktails was my favorite column.

the committee must have seen the talent in Mr Lei's Meditiation Statue that they wanted for the MLK Memorial. i see no reason that a talented sculptor from another country has been hired to do a memorial. i don't believe this is the first time a statue has been done for an American public area by someone who is not American. talent is found all over this world and Mr Lei was in the right place at the right time.
i think it looks like it is a beautiful statue of a great American.

And! you got to dance with Matt "Where the Hell is Matt" Harding!! when i first saw the video 3 or 4 years ago, i thought if everyone could just sit and watch this video once a day; blood pressures would go down, anger management would be an unnecessary treatment and the feel good medications would be redundant! it is a video that just makes you smile and enjoy the fact that Matt has gone all over the world (and under water and in a zero atmosphere) to do his little dance. look at the...

Posted on 07/06/11 at 01:17 pm in response to The reproducible and irreproducible cocktail: Monte Carlo and W.A. Frost

With the wonderful summer weather we are experiencing, I believe it is time for a jaunt to the W. A. Frost patio and with recommendation sip a B & B Manhattan!
Thanks, Max.
I appreciate you!!

Posted on 06/23/11 at 12:15 pm in response to One L, two Ns: Bachmann in the arts

I actually thought it interesting reading! I was not aware of the Seed Art picture of Ms. Bachmann at the State Fair, nor was I aware of the comic book series, the latina song or the Pancake pictures. However, with Ms. Bachmann declaring herself for the Republican Presidential race, don't you think these items will make it out the general press sometime soon. Score one for Max and MinnPost! They beat the Today show to it!!
