MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Richard Pecar says: "My opinion is the republicans, who seem so concerned about the national and state deficits and government's long-term debt, are really advocating for people who have plenty of dough."
No, Richard, we're advocating for a society where no one segment should have to pay the lion's share of its costs while others do not. In a free society, the cost of government should be paid by all citizens, not just those who can best afford to pay. Everyone pays the same sales...
That Betty, such a radical fiscal conservative.
I think it's hilarious and instructive that all these "anti-rich" folks commenting here who would simply confiscate all the rich people's wealth if they had their way, because lord knows they didn't earn it, are the same people who voted for Mark Dayton, trust fund baby who's living off the fruits of his uncles' labor.
heh. Carry on.
This woman is so dependent on government from morning til night that she can't even ween herself long enough to look for another job when her subsidized employer can't make its payroll.
Way to go, liberals. Mission accomplished.
Sorry, but we elected people to do this job.
This committee is nothing more than a face-saving effort to cover Dayton's backside.
Let Dayton explain why he absolutely needs to raise taxes. He's never even said how he intends to spend that extra money.
This is what happens when you elect a rich guy to be governor who's never needed to live off a paycheck.
It's instructive that nowhere in any press account is the disagreement spelled out in plain terms: the governor wants to spend billions more than we have and to raise taxes to do so. The republicans are refusing to go along.
Obviously, the fear is that fact would be too easily digested by the voters.
Clarence Thomas shouldn't have to recuse himself because of the activities of his wife. She is a citizen in her own right and he should not be held liable for anything she says or does.
Kagan, on the other hand, is being asked to recuse herself because of her activities, not her partner's.
It certainly is easy to spot the non-parents in these comments, isn't it?
"Government is not 'them' – it is us"
Government is not "us." Government is those people who write or enforce the laws, ordinances and regulations in our society and punish those who don't abide by them.
You're government, Mr. Marty. I'm not.
