I don't see why the slur of referring my neighborhood's Target as the "ghetto Target" serves a useful function in this article.

This is a clean, friendly Target with just as good service as any other. My only general complaint is that they seem to have less selection than bigger Target stores.

As for the experiment. I works fine when I've been there. The only frustration I've experienced is that you have to weave around a long row of junk food and magazines and other garbage to...

Posted on 10/01/10 at 07:46 pm in response to Bachmann (or Pawlenty) v. Klobuchar in 2012? A small technical point

Another small technical point. I thought we learned that Pawlenty orchestrated the Dick Cheney phone call himself after deciding to switch gears and run for governor instead.

On Bachmann, it's conceivable she would run for Senate, but I don't think she could be competative against Klobuchar in a presidential year. Yes, Minnesota's Democratic leanings are overstated, but Bachmann turns off a lot of independents (and Republicans). Her current district is perfect for her. I wonder if...

Could a stadium be largely financed with public bonds? There would be a certain cache with owning a stadium bond that helped keep the Vikings in Minnesota.

Or better yet, maybe public ownership of a team is out, but the public can own a stadium in the truest sense. Sell individual stocks to own a piece of the new stadium. Stock owners could get a cut of the stadium's rent plus ticket preferences and other add-ons. Units of government could choose to be stock owners, justifying to...

"In the May ratings, in the prime 25-54-year-old demographic, KSTP finished second of four local stations at 5 p.m..."

People under 50 years old still get news from local television stations?

I'm a DFLer who up to recently supported Al Franken. I now simply wonder if he is the best candidate in light of recent developments.

This poll is troubling for DFLers who want to take back Paul Wellstone's seat. I thought the wording of the question is entirely valid. If these results are replicated in another poll, DFL delegates should take their heads out of the sand and look for an alternative to go against Coleman.

Posted on 05/02/08 at 12:25 am in response to Franken: More trouble to come?

I am a former-Al Franken supporter who started having doubts about his candidacy this last winter. At the DFL district convention, I was with an "uncommitted" sub-caucus.

So, I am not a Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer partisan, but I don't understand why he doesn't merit consideration in media reports like Lahammer's. He has run an energetic campaign. He is somewhat known. He appears to be trailing Franken in delegates right now, but he still has garnered a fair amount of delegates.

There may be some good arguments against the caucus system, but stories of supposed unfairness are unconvincing to me.

If people who were at the caucus on time weren't given a fair opportunity to be delegates, all it takes is one person to move to subcaucus and another to second it. Caucus are supposed to be self run. The people in the room make the decisions on how to proceed. If you don't speak up about how something is being done, than I don't see the reason to complain.

Posted on 03/03/08 at 05:31 pm in response to A 'brokered' Democratic convention? Not gonna happen

Thanks for the excellent piece. A lot of folks in the media and political junkies are drooling at the prospect of a contested convention, but it is improbable.

IF the vote is close going into the convention I think the scenario is *highly likely* that a sizable number of super delegates will abstain or vote for a placeholder as described. They could then vote en mass on the second ballot toward the highest vote getter on the first ballot.

Even more likely is a nominee within...

Strange. I always thought the Rake was quite good. Frankly, it's the best free periodical in the Twin Cities. Certainly better than the weeklies City Pages and Vita.mn.

I know nothing about the difficult and crowded field of local media, but I was surprised how cheap it is being offered for.

Oh yes, I agree it is vitally important to be able to have that organic label in which the consumer can place reasonable faith. That is many people's first concern with groceries (including mine).

I'm just suggesting that there be additional regimes of labeling/regulation on important questions BEYOND what is organic.

If consumers have reason to care about the business structure (including size) of the producer, or how far the product has traveled, or what has gone into its...
