MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
I'd be upset too if I was told I'd only get 1/2 of my billion-dollar palace paid for by the public. Between having to pay taxes amounting to almost 15% of income (Romney), and being forced to only take a 50% subsidy (Wilf), I'm starting to realize just how hard it is to maintain a fortune. Poor guys. Let's pass around the collection plate...
Small donor donations down from 1.8 million to 255 bucks in 4 years?!? Implausible, if not almost impossible, even without the state refund. More than that had to have been donated, the question is just what it got called and where it was funneled...
I find it hilariously ironic that the party pushing for voter-ID laws to combat potential voter fraud can't officially declare a winner of it's first caucus because they lost the ballots from 8 precincts. Good stuff...
And a fond farewell to Rick Perry- may he live on as the classic example of how to utterly destroy a campaign, without the opposition lifting a finger.
Ah, "occupant-in-chief". Very nice. As in "we all know he's not the legally elected president, since he wasn't born in the US, isn't a Christian, and probably has green blood." You don't like his policies- great. Debate away. But ditch the childish allusions to illegitimacy. There's enough blowhards like Trump spouting them off, we don't need more.
The fact that Sviggum doesn't understand the difference between a hypothetical job "as an employee of the legislature" and the replacement to Brodkorb is pretty illuminating. Brodkorb was among the most visible and vocal mouthpieces of the MN GOP- although since he claimed several different titles, who knows when he was speaking as what. If Sviggum plans to be as vocal about Republican policies as Brodkorb was, he absolutely has a conflict of interest.
Ah, the party of fiscal responsibility. Legal bills aren't cheap, so going out of your way to pay more of them is a strange strategy. Between having to defend this silliness, and presumably also having to defend themselves against Brodkorb's firing (he's also retained a lawyer, as I understand it), can we periodically get an estimate of how much money the Republicans are wasting on avoidable legal fees?
Most of us have been reading between the lines- when stories about Koch have have had odd paragraphs dropped in the middle about Brodkorb being fired, it's not hard to get the message of "yeah, seems suspicious, we're working on it."
It will come out, and while normally I don't care who anyone is sleeping with, the hypocrisy of Koch trying to "preserve marriage" and doing this does have me watching this like a bad car-wreck.
Re: the "Big Gay, Inc" comment from Mr Swift:
What happened to the call for this to be a "place for civil, thought-provoking and high-quality public discussion"?
#3- the problem was 3 lines farther down, where it mentions that in 4 counties planned parenthood is the only option for this service.
Can I just ask why you you choose to ignore the portion that doesn't suit you? I honestly do like hearing different perspectives- I don't often agree with them, but I can talk with family members who vote differently from me and we can actually keep the discussion on facts, policy, and ideas. But they are decent enough that if we talk about something...
Fascinating story- I look forward to reading the full article. I'm a bit surprised her new neurologist has never had a patient bring up the conflict of interest question- with the degree of mistrust much of the public currently has towards big institutions and science in general, this is something I actively talk about with my patients. I let them know that I have no stake in whether or not they take a certain medication/vaccine, and that I get no sort of kickback/bonus/reward for any...
