I don't know how I missed the release of Reynold Philipsek's "Easat Side", I love Philipsek and Clint Hoover is a monster on the chromatic harmonica. I'll have to get that one.
Wow, what a surprise, Bonafield likes Bachmanm. Likes her so much he writes an article that sounds like it was written by her PR team.
But then again he has a crush on Katherine Kersten as evidenced by his handling of her, asking 'tough' questions such as "What is it about the liberal mind that opens itself so readily to this totalitarian impulse?"
Well, his first job was with William F. Buckley Jr. at National Review. I can understand his point of view.
What I can't...
The Pat Mallinger Quartet at the Artusts' Quarter is only $8 tonight (Wednesday, November 25th).
Too bad there's no jazz in this town :-)
With the ST Paul Art Crawl also happening this weekend ( http://www.stpaulartcrawl.org/ ) art-crawlers can take advantage of the free shuttle bus to get to these Artists' Quarter events at the end of the day - the bus stops at the Landmark Center, which is right across the street from the AQ.
Correction - there are two shows for Astral Project, an early show at 8:00 pm and a late show at 10:30 pm both Friday and Saturday.
DownBeat was not quite alone - Jazz Improv Magazine, while note quite as glossy and polished - still provides a lot of solid jazz coverage in it's fat quarterly publication.

What a great weekend for jazz!
BTW, young piano wizard Tanner Taylor and brilliant bassist Chris Bates will also be joining Jim Snidero at the Artists' Quarter this weekend.
I showed up at 8:00 pm on Saturday to hear Kenny Werner and ended up staying until 2:00 am - six hours of great jazz.
The Twin Cities Jazz Society is co-presenting a concert in its "Jazz from J to Z" series focussing on the music of the late avant garde pioneer Eric Dolphy with the MacPhail School of Music in Minneapolis in its popular “Jazz Thursday’s” series on April 16. The concert will feature Dave Milne on woodwinds, Kelly Rossum on trumpet, Dave Hagedorn on vibes, Tom Lewis on bass, and Phil Hey on drums.
In addition to Happy Apple, the Artists' Quarter has also presented the Out To Lunch...
