Regarding the proposed Arden Hills Vikings stadium: I certainly hope that the governor and legislature take no action to suspend or circumvent Ramsey County's "home rule" status and require the county board to raise taxes to fund the new facility. We here in Ramsey County need a referendum on whether or not we should pay additional sales taxes to subsidize millionaires. This is one issue that the citizens of the county have a right to weigh in on.
In Saint Paul in particular, we are...
The goal for Republicans is not simply to avoid raising taxes. They want to starve the government of revenue and thereby shrink it until they achieve Grover Norquist's goal of making it small enough "to drown in a bathtub." If the government has no money, among other things, it can't enforce or regulate...well, you get the picture.

Renewing community singing could just be the most important contribution to musical life in the Twin Cities in many years. You, GO, Betty!
There is no doubt that Syria under the Assads has been one of the world's most repressive regimes for decades. A change in government would certainly be welcome, if only for the sake of the Syrian people.
Nevertheless, should we take the advice of the neocon element and enter into yet another nation-building misadventure, waste more precious blood, spend more treasure we do not have, and allow our stature to sink even lower in the world than it already is? The Bush Doctrine has been...
I can think of one reason the majority in the legislature like to talk about Indiana and Texas: If they mentioned Mississippi, they might reveal their real motives too clearly. They would prefer we not pay too much attention as they lead us to the bottom.
If Sen. McCain's bus was called "The Straight Talk Express," how about calling the Tea Party Iowa tour bus the "We're All High on Koch Klown Kar"?
Rep. Cornish's timing - so soon after the disasterous shootings in Arizona - is very enigmatic. Is he more concerned about stopping criminals from obtaining guns, or making it easier for them to get them?
