Signing Jim Thome was absolutely the right thing for the Twins to do. Aside from his awesome power at the plate, he is a class act and remains well regarded everywhere he has played.

Welcome back, Jim!

Thanks to Tommy Johnson for his Tim Pawlenty quote and excellent trivia suggestion.

This statement is the perfect summation of the philosophy of the modern Republican Party, the Social Darwinists' creed. The Governor's mistake here was in stating the creed honestly.

I could see this one coming back to haunt him.

This is some kind of sick joke, right? What is this country coming to when someone who fudges facts to suit her purposes is allowed to oversee the country's most secret and sensitive work?

This comment - and all such comments (including at least one of the posts here) is crass in the extreme. This kind of talk has no place in public discourse.

The Bowles/Simpson commission has done something very necessary, provocative, and brave. They have pointed out the obvious. Kudos to them for telling the truth: We are going to have to pay more in taxes (sorry, Tea Party) and have little to show for it (sorry, Progressives)in order to get our wretched house in order.

Our ancestors understood the need to sacrifice. They put up with victory gardens, ration cards, and scrap drives, and many of...

The launch of Republican congressional investigations is probably the best thing that could happen to the President. He will be able to point to it as one example (and, I suspect, not the only one) of the Republican Party overreaching for political gain. These investigations will only serve to show how little conservatives really care about the real concerns of average Americans.

At least the Democrats can say that, when they held the reins of power in the House, instead of...

Hmmm...

The Chamber of Commerce deciding how to deal with the state budget is a little like the fox telling the farmer how to arrange chickens in the hen house so that the fox can eat them faster.

I'd like to encourage the people of Rep. Bachmann's district show her the error of her ways by demonstrating true democracy in action. In the fall, please go to the poles and vote her out!

As big a fan as I am of "green energy," I can't help but recall that this is the very same T. Boone Pickens who "swiftboated" John Kerry.

I would caution everyone to take a hard view of anything Boone Pickens wants done.
