Yes, Doc. It's a satire.

Thanks to all for an interesting thread.
It's true that southerners have been electing black candidates. The majority of those were Democrats, elected by Democrats and especially in areas with a lot of black votes. But there have been exceptions, including black Republicans, like J.C. Watts and more recently Allen West, both of whom went to Congress with the support of a lot of white Republicans.
Nonetheless, I'll stand by my statement that the immediately positive reaction of a...

Posted on 10/01/10 at 03:00 pm in response to A Dem dares to mention his vote for Obamacare

To Ginny Martin and Jon-Erik Kingstad,
I do not think "shoved down the throat of the American people" is an accurate, fair or reasonable description of how the health care bill passed. The constant repetition of that phrase has become such an annoyance to me that I used it facetiously, treating it as a self-parody. That was a mistake and sarcasm is sometimes a dangerous game, especially for an ink-stained wretch who frequently preaches civility.
As for the term "ObamaCare," I do...

Thanks Eric F. That was just some sloppiness. It was supposed to say (and now does, thanks to you) that Cook doesn't anticipate any changes in Minnesota's congressional lineup this year.

thanks to all for a great thread. Just responding to Eric Larson in #31. Just google madison federal power over states and you'll find lots of references. This power was part of the Virginia Plan, which Madison drafted and which was introduced at the beginning on the Const'l Convention as a basis for debate. Here's one: http://www.usconstitution.net/consttop_ccon.html...

Hello John, hope your summer is going well.
The transcript is the full context. The full question and the full answer, so far as I can tell.
Also, you don't need to go to youtube, just click on that big arrow in the middle of the picture of bachmann in the post itself and it should play the audio (there is no video). cheers, have a good weekend everyone.

Posted on 07/05/10 at 11:37 pm in response to Taking Tentherism seriously in Minnesota

Hi Julie, welcome aboard.
I try to maintain a civil tone and regret if I came across as overly accusatory. I do think that if Rep. Bachmann, who is a member of Congress, an attorney, and who describes herself as a Constitutional conservative is going to make statements about federal actions that exceeded the enumerated powers of Congress, she should work out a coherent doctrine of what fidelity to the 10th Amendment requires. Otherwise, as I said in my piece, 10th amendment objections...
