I didn't intend to watch the convention until later, when Michelle Obama spoke, but got drawn into very quickly by the speeches by others--every one of the others, in fact. Cory Booker, Deval Patrick, Castro (an up and coming politician--hurray), the talk by NARAL director and the appearance of all those strong women legislators. And of course Michelle Obama. She and Barack fought for their professional lives, managing to get grants and loans and whatever was needed to get their educations...

Just look at the joyous smile in this photo of Michelle Obama!

I think his comment has about as much accuracy as the spelling of Rybak's name.

There's no contradiction here.

I did. I turned off the sound and watched but I was chilled for a few minutes by his smile. I don't know if it was a Dad, you should be proud of me, so much as Have I got a deal for you! He looked like the cat that ate the cheese.

has always seemed to me to be at about the emotional i.q. level of a 6th or 7th graders. His speech confirms it. He was a bully, he used phrases that I thought only children used, he was arbitrary, he refused to meet with DFLers to try to work out issues, he never showed up at an economic conference with the DFLers, scorning them as . . I don't remember what he said now, but it was vicious and childish.
He should stick to his day job, whatever that is.

Nixon said the same thing about ending the Vietnam war, that he had a "secret plan" to end the war. Didn't.

I was unable and unwilling to watch the convention news. I did briefly, but it's easier for me to handle these things if I read them, instead of listening to a finger pointing bellowing politician tell me a lot of stuff I know is not true.
I didn't see any fact-checking from our local newspaper, but I'll watch for it from FactCheck and a couple other sites. (They do Democrats too, as does Eric Black: equal treatment.)

Democrats should publicize these social issues, such as the republican (many of them) belief beginning of life when the guys sperm and egg meet and the result is a person with the same value as a walking around adult person. Most common sense Americans don't go along with that and all the consequences of this theology. Democrats should make it clear what that means. It will repel most voters.

Remember who won that 1968 contest? But Humphrey was beginning to back away from supporting the Vietnam war and was picking up steam. If the campaign had gone on a little longer, Humphrey would have won--and imagine what would have happened then.
Nixon promised that he had a "secret plan" to end the Vietnam war and apparently many voters believed he did have something up his sleeve. It turned out to be a blank paper.
