MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
I will believe that "no new taxes" isn't about further enriching the already fabulously wealthy when those folks agree to at least raise their own taxes to the point where they pay the same percentage of the income they receive from the proceeds of their labor and investments as the rest of us.
Until then it remains absolutely clear that "no new taxes" has been nothing but a catch phrase to enlist the poor and middle class in your crusade to enrich those who are already wealthy beyond...
If President Obama owned guns and continuously brandished them in inappropriate ways in ridiculous situations, and continuously repeated this point, it would be clear that he did not mean what he said in that one instance to be taken figuratively, but meant it to be taken literally.
Of course he has done NONE of those things.
Other examples, sited above, are of individuals who DO brandish guns, who DO own large numbers of guns, who DO hammer home the idea that average citizens...
Our "Constitutional" "Conservative" friends (whose actual operation and thinking has no connection to either of those terms), read the constitution the same way many of them read the Bible.
They love to pull out a verse or two, here or there which they proceed to use to bash those whom they don't like or with whom they disagree,
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." [Leviticus 18:22]
But ignore contradictory verses such as those...
What we will see, by their responses to Governor Dayton's reasoned and reasonable budget proposals is whether the leadership (which does not, necessarily reflect the overall membership) of the Minnesota "Chamber of Commerce" is interested in the well being of the citizens of the State of Minnesota...
Or only interested in further padding their own already-overstuffed pockets.
If they trot out that old "Better Business Climate" B.S. they will be making it clear that the latter...
I'm sorry, Rolf, but your rejection, out of hand, of all other points of view, and your failure to suggest anything that might assist the US in moving to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future makes you come across as a shill for those who make their profits from the energy supply system as it currently exists.
Just because a class is being taught which reflects your point of view (and likely requires your students to appear to adopt it no matter what evidence they might discover...
The most "arbitrary" thing currently seen in the energy sector here in the US is the price of gasoline. The moment-by-moment, constantly changing price at the pump now has very little to do with the ACTUAL supply and demand of oil and EVERYTHING to do with the limited supply of futures contracts in barrels of oil being traded by speculators hoping to make a killing.
The currently-reported very high "price" of a barrel of oil is NEVER the actual price eventually paid for that oil....
We must ALL remember that there are two Republican tenets that supersede the constitution and everything else:
When caught in lying, cheating or other malfeasance: IDCIYAR...
[IHD' - key - yar]
IT DOESN'T COUNT IF YOU ARE A REPUBLICAN
When taking credit for ideas that belong to other people, Democratic ideas for instance, when thinking up new ideas and inventing new things: IOCIYAR...
[eye - OH' - see - yar]
IT ONLY COUNTS IF YOU AR A REPUBLICAN...
I will believe that the Republicans have decided to actually respect the constitution precisely when they seek to repeal the "Patriot Act" on constitutional grounds, limit the spying powers of the Department of "Homeland Security," and seek to grant the rights of habeas corpus, due process, and speedy civil trial in US courts to all those being held in Guantanamo Bay (and elsewhere) under the suspicion of terrorism.
Each of those things would grant rights GUARANTEED by the founders of...
Bravo, Senator Franken!
Along the lines of what Minnesota spent on what in 2009, I'd love to see a figure regarding what King Timmy "spent" by continuously protecting our states wealthiest citizens from paying a percentage of the proceeds of their work and investments equal to that which is paid by the rest of us.
I suspect King Timmy's "welfare" for the fabulously wealthy far outstrips what the state spent trying to help those in actual need.
