MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
the owners of the foreign businesses who are taking those jobs away from us.
How's that for a lose-lose proposition for the American public (but a win-win for those making their money off international trade).
Do we know, yet, whether Minnesota will lose a congressional district? If so, a far more complete redrawing of the districts than usual will be necessitated.
If you think that election recounts are prone to political hijinks in order to be sure your side wins (which they're not in Minnesota), THIS is where you'll find the hijinks you're looking for.
Redisticting is where the political party in power tries desperately to stack the decks so that the areas where they are weak...
Thus do we see that the "Tea Party" movement was a complete sham - just a cleverly dishonest rebranding designed to convince the rubes (their attitude toward you, not mine) that a few courageous individuals could turn the GOP away from serving only the interests of the fabulously wealthy toward actually caring about the "little people."
Rand Paul is doing the same thing.
Hey, all you "Tea Party" members, do you realize how completely you've been HAD!?
What a wonderful history of things already done by Senator Franken on behalf of those in need!
Of course our most dysfunctional conservative friends (and there are a LOT of them) will feel the compassionate, empathetic aspects of their God-given personalities, those pieces beaten (literally or figuratively) out of them by ideologically rigid parents, families, communities and churches, rattling the bars of the cages in which they are (unconsciously) kept locked away, and will respond...
Of course one can ask the same utilitarian question about any of our lives. What are any of our friends and neighbors getting out of our existence in their midst?
I guess if the answer is that they don't know of us, or don't know us, or receive no direct benefit from our lives, especially if we look like someone they once knew who could be described as disreputable or even criminal, we better just pack ourselves up and head back to where ever our relatives originally came here from,...
Our president has a basic awareness missing from his perspective on the world. It may be just a mental tick, which would only mean he needs a bit of help to shift his thinking or it may be a full-fledged psychological dysfunction, which means he needs to quietly get involved with a counselor who posses the right skills to restore the "warrior" aspect of his personality...
Because what's missing from the president's current perspective is any awareness that there are people who CAN'T...
I'm convinced that the Minnesota Legislature changed hands because the DFL leadership there, ever terrified of being dubbed "tax and spend liberals" (which they always call you anyway) decided to be non-confrontational with King Timmy and, thereby, convinced the public that they were as responsible for all the things they've finally noticed that they've lost or are about to lose (such as local fire and police protection and their homes, due to rising property taxes which, being on fixed...
I believe the "fraud allegations" in Crow Wing county included a Tea Party observer who was upset by the caregivers of a pair of handicapped voters helping them to fill out their ballots (and, the T.P observer claimed, "coaching them").
Having caregivers assist those handicapped in any way with voting is standard procedure in Minnesota and completely legal.
In other words, the only "fraud" in this situation was observation fraud, considering this person doesn't seem to have...
I can't help but agree with Mr. Simon and, regarding the developing trials and travails of Speaker Boehner, all I can say is that "it couldn't happen to a nicer guy."
It will be amusing to watch the Tea Party wing of the GOP take the same approach to the Big Money, Big Government (never paid for, except by borrowing money), Bigger Deficit, Big Business wing of the GOP as those old guard GOP'ers took to the Democrats for these previous two years.
The party of "no!" has just...
RE the reference to the referees of the Vikings/Bears game. Can you spell "false equivalency?"
If the scoring of, and awarding penalties in a Vikings/Bears game were ruled by the same iron-clad policies and procedures as a Minnesota election recount it would mean representatives of both sides would be doing an instant replay judgment on EVERY contact situation in EVERY play, (i.e. 11 or more judgments on the part of team reps from both sides for EACH play of the game).
Under...
