The Catholic Church, by its actions, makes the statements of Mr. Adkins out to be hypocrisy.

But then it's always difficult for bullies to recognize that they ARE bullies, nor to appreciate their own motivations, nor to realize that these are not acceptable excuses:

"I wouldn't have done that if he/she hadn't provoked me,"...

(typically in the halls of a school, by being an identifiable target when I needed to boost my own fragile ego by knocking someone else down -...

I'm sorry for the loss of Michael, but very happy that at the time of his passing his family enabled you to be involved in commemorating his life. As you know, far too often this is not the case.

Thanks for a well-written, carefully reasoned, emotionally affecting piece regarding marriage.

I wish you were right that marriage is about family, but in my experience, for far too many of our "conservative" friends and neighbors, marriage is far more (and far more unconsciously)...

Posted on 04/23/13 at 03:02 pm in response to GOP: Increased school funding means Big Government

Because after ten years of budget crises and reductions in government services, highway maintenance, education funding (as compared to inflation) etc.,

the general public isn't even remotely scared of "tax and spend liberals."

We're happy to have them and looking forward to contributing a few shekels in order to fund such luxuries as not having to pay big bucks to have our kids in sports or other extracurricular organizations,...

It's paying teachers, and buying textbooks and high tech equipment, and reducing class sizes to more manageable levels.

No, giving the schools additional money will not quickly erase the inevitable results of the Twin Cities Metro area being the most racially segregated metro area in the US, nor will it erase the cultural issues created by the income gap between whites and people of color in the Metro area.

Furthermore, I have a very hard time believing, based on their...

Posted on 04/23/13 at 10:48 am in response to Outlook promising for GOP to pick up seats in U.S. Senate

But I'm not.

I'm currently convinced that the "conservative" (Tea Party) wing of the Republican Party will ensure, in each of these states, that the candidate the GOP runs is so far to the right that the Democrat will win, despite the states "red"-ness.

That doesn't mean the Democratically-controlled senate will work smoothly, however, since the conservative Democrats who are likely to win these races will likely be far to the right,...

Posted on 04/23/13 at 03:06 pm in response to Navarre Corp. plans to cut 148 Minnesota jobs

Navarre will learn the hard way that the level of functional education and the reliability of the work force in Texas will leave a great deal to be desired as compared to Minnesota.

This move may look good on paper but it will cost them a great deal in ways they haven't examined over the next few years. It may even cost them their company (but I'm sure Bane Capital will be happy to help at that point).

Posted on 04/23/13 at 10:11 am in response to Why it’s increasingly likely Michele Bachmann will retire

Will EVER bow out gracefully. She WILL run.

She reminds me of a community in which I once lived where people operated out of the principle that if you ever noticeably changed in any way (or changed your mind),...

it CERTAINLY meant you were WRONG before,...

which meant that you were probably WRONG, now, too (i.e. there was NOTHING more dishonorable).

For Michelle NOT to run would be to stop fighting for what she believes in,...

which would mean that...

Posted on 04/23/13 at 09:55 am in response to Catholic Church ramps up opposition to Minnesota anti-bullying bill

The unchangeable (by God or its members) local hierarchy of the Catholic church gives its members an ultimatum:

you MUST worship US; OUR ideas, beliefs and practices (even though they may be considerably different from our recent predecessors'), as if WE have a direct connection to God that you, yourselves can't possibly have,...

and IGNORE each and every way that the Holy Spirit is calling you, day-by-day, hour-by-hour, minute-by-minute to become more Christ-like in your...

Posted on 04/20/13 at 03:01 pm in response to Where Bachmann campaign probes stand after a busy week

Things which are done "in the open" and "above board," do not later need to "come to light," as all of this questionable skullduggery on the part of the Bachmann campaign continues to do.

It always seems as if people like Rep. Bachmann, who are so good at feigning outrage at what they regard to be the questionable actions of others,...

think that they, themselves, are INCAPABLE of wrongdoing because they're doing such important work and they're such notable and important people...
