MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Mr. Hellier apparently wants to know what happened to these documents: an application for temporary relief and a "Second Affidavit of Janice Haarstick Dayton”.
From Mr. Hellier's blog:
"On March 31, 2000, Janice Haarstick’s attorney from Leonard, Street and Deinard, Roseanne Nathanson, apparently without any authorization under the law to do so, removed these sworn statements and some other documents from the court file. It’s unclear why she was allowed to physically remove...
"Christian fiction, nonfiction, children's books": including fairy tales, no doubt.
Having taken a whack at one part of Horner's proposal, the phasing out of corporate taxes, let me also say that while I disagree with some aspects of his proposal, it is reasonable overall. That is, it's based in reason even though fair minded individuals might disagree over the underlying philosophy or the merits of its component parts.
The proposal to broaden the sales tax, for example, is a reasoned response to the problem of a revenue source which fluctuates dramatically and,...
The Pawlenty-appointed 21st Century Tax Reform Commission'sx report to which you have provided a link makes interesting reading in comparison to Sharon Shmickles' Minnpost article on Minnesota's business taxation, particularly in the area of benefits received for taxes paid. Frankly, the commission's report would have more credibility if the commissioners included non-corporate, non-business representatives.
Efforts to repeal the corporate income tax bother me for a number of reasons...
White privilege is a reality I see in action every day, courtesy of my son's experience as a non-white in Minnesota and elsewhere in the U.S. I don't need a conference to understand how much I've benefited from the color of my skin in the last 60 years; my son has taught me, simply by living. Unfortunately, those who might benefit will be the last to attend or to consider that we are in fact privileged today.
Yes, we've come a long way in 50 years, given that we no longer murder "...
Neither Minneapolis nor Saint Paul is an appropriate district to look to for the success or failure of Minnesota's educational system as a whole, for any number of reasons, including racial and economic disparities, the high number of immigrant families in the districts, and the flight to the large number of charter schools in the districts.
Two impressions:
Mr. Horner's PR background is showing; and
He should have someone else do the voiceover.
It's interesting that it has been the gay rights movement that has commanded most of the attention in response to Target's contribution. Mr. Emmer is opposed to far more than gay marriage, after all.
Initially, those opposed to the construction of Cordoba asked city officials to block the project. In legal terms, they asked for government action on the basis of a group's religous orientation. Now that it's been pointed out that such action would be illegal, the emphasis is on the offensive nature of the project, it's alleged insensitivity to the 9/11 survivors and Americans at large.
Both were and are based on the belief, despite ample evidence to the contrary, that 9/11 and...
Does anyone believe that this war actually is over, with 50,000 troops left in Iraq? Then let me talk to you about some land in . . .
