The problem I have with this whole concept of "Conservative Women" or the Conservative/Liberal dichotomy altogether is it only engenders and cultivates divisive political discourse. "Liberal" women do all the same things "Conservative" women do with the same level of quality - "They've been married, they've had children, they've had to pay a mortgage, they're in charge of the family finances, they've put kids through school, they own their own business, are co-owners in the family business...
I was taught that if you weren't married in the Church, you were living in sin. Therefore the Catholic Church doesn't even recognize civil marriages of heterosexuals. Why then would the Church be so obsessed with a civil matter that they don't even recognize as valid in the first place? They don't recognize it but everyone else must recognize it the way they - don't? The cognitive dissonance is mindboggling! They are rendering up to God that which is Caesar's

The reason Republicans see voter fraud as a problem to be delt with is because they have become virtual masters at it themselves over the years using every dirty trick in the book to prevent the poor and disenfranchised from voting as they don't even think they should be able to vote or even exist for that matter. Never mind that their "policies" are swelling the ranks of the poor and disenfranchised exponentially. They would rather we have a corporate controlled fascist state where the...
When reading this I couldn't help but think about all those huge shopping malls that are closing down in the burbs. When we walk into any of these malls, there is a sense of human scale with all those smaller shops interspersed with larger anchors. It's as if we are wired to gather together and create human scale spaces with lots of variety - the market square. The problem is that you have to drive to get to them and every night they close down and die. I think over time people get tired...
So then you agree with the premice of the article. Left or Right the trend is the same - loss of respect for the judiciary and the rule of law...
The Vatican has always tried unsuccessfully to suppress any movement that acted outside the purview of their approval whether the substance of what they are doing is holy or not. Holiness has never been an issue with the Vatican. The Beguines were a movement of holy lay women who gathered into informal communities. They were well regarded wherever they were formed. Like the CSJ's, they helped the poor, opened hospitals, cared for the needy and the outcast and lived simple lives of great...
I was once told by a good friend whose political leanings are far to the right that Ideas Are Important. This I believe to be true. But sometimes it seems that Ideas can become too Important. To me, this phenomenon is called Idolatry. When ideas become idols, anything contrary or that in any way undermines the purity of the ideal becomes suspect, anathema, dangerous and in the end must be exterminated.
We have many examples throughout history of the destructive results that the...
This ALEC is the scariest effort yet, by Republicans, to undermine American Democracy for, of and by THE PEOPLE! They are so blindsided by their ideology that they don't even care what it takes to ram their anti-American, destructive, ideology passed into law. These kinds of developments already had their dark day back in 1933 somwhere east of the Rhine. We need to open our consumer stuffed eyes and not let this happen again...
