Great post, Ryan! For starters, I respect Steve Berg's efforts to get some of these issues in the foreground. But he could do more by publicizing the venues where meaningful discussions about the skyway future are being held. Videotect was great fun but it was no substitute for a respectful and thoughtful airing of community concerns.

I have been interested in this since taking an Urban Studies workshop a few years ago with Judith Martin. My curiosity was piqued by the Dallas experience, and I started to sketch out a spreadsheet model for cost/benefit analysis of a merger of Hennepin and Minneapolis and surrounding cities .. at a very rough level, of course. It got sidelined, but if anyone is interested in revisiting this exercise with me, drop me an email. At the least, it should generate what Arvonne Fraser calls...
