MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Can you remember any poll by liberal media outfits such as the Star Tribune and MPR showing a conservative Republican far ahead in very early polling? I didn't think so.
Comments saying biased early polling leads to more volunteers and more cash are right on.
My interest in "climate Change" happened in the 1970s after reading articles in good, liberal publications such as Newsweek and Time quoting dedicated scientists regarding the coming Ice Age.
In the 1960s, I can also recall that one very high profile scientist was telling us the world would be out of food by the end of the century because of over population.
Jim, I hate to say this but scientists can get it wrong — just like old newspaper reporters.
Is saying you were the first comparable to saying yours is the biggest?
I have never understood why "first" is a concern. Everyone knew Childress was going to get fired. I want reporters to tell me something I don't know and local guys do a pretty good job of doing that.
But if some local must be fired, I nominate Sid.
Polls have been "missing" in favor of Democrats for years. In 2002, the last Minnesota Poll said Walter Mondale was ahead 46-41%. Norm Coleman won with 49% of the vote.
Just ten days ago, the Minnesota Poll claimed Mark Dayton was ahead by a whopping seven- percentage point. I trust the Star Tribune will have the decency to get out of the polling business.
Okay, I will bite. Which one of the six candidates mentioned is actually a Republican?
Star Tribune polling always starts out showing the DFLer with a significant lead. The polls inspire campaign workers and help the candidate raise money.
Then the poll magically tightens just before the election to give the Star Tribune pollster some degree of cover.
Dayton's lead will drop from nine point to two in the final poll. You can bet on it. History does repeat itself.
As long as we are discussing media full disclosure, I think it would be wonderful if Star Tribune reporters started identifying themselves as union members when writing articles about union activity.
The issue for Republicans and 70 percent of Americans is illegal immigration.
It is revealing how often liberal reporters such as Dave and Bob ignore that illegal part.
I have not dog in this fight but I find it interesting Star Tribune reporters fail to identify themselves as union members in the stories they write. Conversely, they always tell readers when newspaper owners may have a conflict of interest.
