Posted on 09/25/12 at 11:20 am in response to Perceptions of media bias in presidential race coverage

News is, by definition, a focus on the unusual. The old "man bites dog" saying comes to mind. No one does a story about all of the planes that land safely, because we expect them to. So when one crashes, the media covers it.

The appearance that the media is too easy on Obama may simply be that Obama has said less stupid stuff than Romney has. The president is the leader of the free world. How can the media ignore stuff like Romney not worrying about the 47 percent, or that plane...

Posted on 09/19/12 at 11:55 am in response to Some Minnesota Republicans see silver lining in Romney video

Many of those people not paying taxes still feel put-upon and vote Republican. It's ridiculous to think that people who don't pay taxes are Democrats.

I know people on Social Security without another dime to their name who are staunch Republicans and feel it's the remaining 46.399999 people who are getting more than their share, but somehow they are paying too much. And they're probably right, because as average income drops, the percentage of income going to the state and local...

Posted on 09/12/12 at 11:08 am in response to Singer/actor Pat Boone endorses Minnesota voting amendment in video

Pat Boone is such a supporter of Republicans they can practically drag him out any time they need a spokesperson to say whatever nonsense they want.

According to Wikipedia:

On August 29, 2009, Boone wrote an article comparing liberalism to cancer, likening it to "black filthy cells".

In 2009, Boone stated his belief that Barack Obama is not eligible to serve as the President of the United States. Boone also has stated that Barack Obama is fluent in Arabic and read the...

Posted on 09/12/12 at 11:04 am in response to The problem with asking: Are you better off than four years ago?

My 401K is better - a lot better. My business is not, but that has more to do with changes in technology than the economy. My wife's business is hiring again. My daughter, a recent college graduate, got a job right out of college, but it's not in this country. The world is not at the threshold of never-ending Middle Eastern war - something I think makes my life better. Things like paying for college are MUCH better than when President Bush was in office and the banks essentially re-wrote the...

Tom Swift is a known troll. He is intolerant of everyone - including those who agree with him - and he mostly just ignites flames and fans their fires. He's been doing this for years.

Posted on 08/20/12 at 10:57 am in response to Rep. Todd Akin needs to take a course in female biology

Well everyone knows that being a rape victim in this country is so damn much fun that people are reporting it just to share in that enjoyment . After all, what's more fun than being physically forced to do something against your will, followed by a complete, probing medical examination, hours spent talking with county attorneys and the possibility of having to testify in open court, with spectators everywhere, about being emotionally subjugated and physically abused. And all with the...

Posted on 08/13/12 at 10:06 am in response to Some perspective on the Ryan pick

In a world where the "average voter" claims that both parties are the same, this ought to put an end to that.

Ryan's budget - the most radical budget in my lifetime - should tell people exactly what the Tea Party people want: reduce Medicare to a Groupon, build the military by 33 percent, tax the little people in favor of those with car elevators and generally turn back 60 years of social programs that elevated the truly poor to at least a human living condition.

As a Democrat...

I'm a strong Democrat, but regardless of which party our leaders are in, there should be more done to honor those who have been leaders for a long time. I think Pawlenty drove this state into the ditch, but he was a two-term governor and legislator before that. There should a school, or a lake or a government building name for him. And if he is elected vice president, it should be even more. Dave Durenberger and Martin Sabo, too. And even Jesse Ventura, who served just four years. Mondale...

Posted on 07/16/12 at 12:47 pm in response to Pros and some big cons of Pawlenty as Romney’s VP choice

A vice president's four jobs are: chairing the senate, which they hardly do much any more, attending funerals, be capable to take over if the president should die and add politically to the ticket to help get the president elected. There is no question Pawlenty can do the first two. On the second, he has been a governor and running the federal government is similar. But he has no Washington experience. And on the final point: what does he bring to the campaign? Another middle-aged, quasi-...

I wonder who is going to play Tony Sutton in the made-for-TV movie, likely to be entitled: Elephant Droppings.
