MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Working below a standard of living is sad. However, what's even sadder are some of these neocons who then say these people should pay for their own healthcare under some Groupon-like scheme.
If we're going to have people who workk for so little, we need to see that their basic needs are met. And if that means raising the price of a cup of coffee or a hamburger, so be it.
There are some legitimate reasons for letting Iowa be first. It is a well-educated population that reads newspapers at a higher rate than most states. It has few really rich people. The people are more engaged than in most places. It has a lot of highly educated people. And they have as good a mix of farming, industry, technology, etc., as any state.
However, after having lived there for eight years and covered politics for the Mason City Globe-Gazette at one time, I can tell you that...
I hope they are run more like ECM and less like the Sun. ECM has good reporting and pretty good writing for a series of small papers. The same cannot be said for most of the Sun papers.
Dennis Tester, you're completely off base. What really matters here is the hypocrisy of the Republican Party. They act holier than thou about everything and they can't seem to do any of it themselves. They say that one-man and one-woman families are sacred, yet they cheat just as often as anyone else. They say you have to manage money, and they run a government that borrows constantly and can't even run their own party in the black. I don't remember Bill Clinton condemning single mother...
Thanks for being a media partner, but it would have been nice if you listed their names without having to click through to the Jaycees site. And a identifying caption would help me put a name to the faces.
I don't think the Tea Party is racist, per se. It just attracts the same ignorant, misguided people that tend to be racist.
I don't know if all politicians are noble. I think they can be. I think Kate Knuth is.
The Vikings have been a washout all year. So, in answer to your headline, yes.
In all fairness to the Vikings during a "building" year, I think this Packer team may be the greatest football team I've ever seen - even better than the '89 49ers and the '72 Dolphins.
This is the pendulum swinging back on the clueless conservatives that were swept into office in the last elecction who then promptly did NOTHING. All they did was dig their feet in and look like the fools they are. If this pendulum keeps swinging this way because the legislature does nothing for another year, we'll finally -- after more than 30 years -- have a progressive governor and legislature who can pick this state back up out of the trash and hopefully put a shine back on it.
Thank you for stating the obvious, which is apparently not very common in the media these days. That is that there is that Republican legislative leadership is the biggest oxymoron in the state.
