MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
I think Abe wished Affordable Health Care covered dental.
According to the MN Lottery's web site, about 46% of the lottery's after-expenses cash goes to the State's general fund with the remaining 54% to one of 3 natural resources funds. I don't think its crazy to assume that adding a For-the-Vikings lottery game doesn't add any new money and just cannibalizes existing games. The result, then, is essentially re-routing money currently going to the general fund and outdoors programs to a stadium.
Never thought I'd ever agree w/the Taxpayers League about anything, but here it is.
...and that's why you won't find pulltabs at the Lafayette Club or Minneapolis Club.
Whenever I see one of those studies that says arts contributes this or tourism contributes that, I'm reminded of walking the gadget/miracle aisle at Pep Boys and seeing all the potions and add-ons that will save 3 mpg here, 4 there, and 10% beyond that. If they all worked as well as advertised, gas would be flowing out of my tank. If all these industries were as beneficial as advertised (pro sports is the most egregious), we'd be getting envelopes of cash in the mail everyday.
I went through both Google and Bing looking for Militias in MN, either Well-Regulated or otherwise. Nothing pops up, but maybe they just don't have their web presence up yet.
A lot can happen between now and 2020, but the current Repub hold on the House is entirely due to redistricting. The aggregate Dem vote for House candidates was over 500,000 more than for Repubs in 2012. With neutrally-selected districts, the Dems would hold the House right now.
What's with the chips but no molten velveeta? Does she know where she's visiting?
I worked with Karl at a business magazine publisher decades ago. Even in that corporate environment, he was never shy about raising impertinent questions and calling b.s. when it needed to be called. I wish there was room for people like him and Nick Coleman in the modern mainstream press.
Which was slightly more deadly in absolute terms, much more considering the population of the country then.
