MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.

This WMD/no-WMD thing still gets tossed around like it was a question of what the best tax or transportation policy should be. This monumental scam has produced thousands of funerals in the US and who-knows-how-many in Iraq. Here's 10 real tragedies from Minnesota that came out of some guys sitting around a conference room's table "decision" - there's 58 more and counting.

Been back and forth through the LA Times site this morning. Saw no evidence that a stadium had been built overnight. Did see an article about a stadium being piggybacked onto Staples Center had been scuttled.
The stadium went down because it was a real crappy deal. In between the NFL subsidy and loan, the Wilfs were contributing just about nothing and being guaranteed a cash flow (with no real estate taxes). What was interesting to me is how the Pelissero/Rand/Charchian/Kriesel types on twitter spun this as a defeat for Dayton because he only got 1 Dem vote, when it was Zeillers calling all the shots. This would have been done months ago if Zeillers was behind it and will never be done if he...
Why do (or report on) a poll that doesn't account for the electoral college?
Are there even 78 communists left in all of America?
The life tenure seems to amplify how "different" these men and women are. I probably know hundreds of people fairly well and only about a dozen of them are as extreme as any of the 9 justices. I understand that we need skilled law professionals to parse through conflicting decisions by lower courts, but these people are just another group of political hacks when they get involved with Bush v Gore and ACA.
Coming down pretty hard on sugar, are we?
The question of if he was appointed or a civil servant is a canard.
Its tough for me to feel sorry for her, but the person who got screwed in this whole deal is Koch. A man in the same spot would have been admonished and done a presser with the wife talking about "challenges," but she becomes persona non grata and is shunned.
The projections about the uptake of video pulltabs (now expanded to video bingo/pulltabs in the bill) are just hooey. It's an absolutely new product that's never been exposed to the market, right up there with the electric car and New Coke. They're rolling the dice on a $1 billion decision based on "research," while no one is allowed to see the studies or talk to the researchers. The return on gizmo-gambling is all just speculation, especially in light of the market being absolutely...
I'd work it a different way, from a new product introduction model. Start with having to produce $21 million a year. Minnesota's current population is 5.3 million, of which 4.1 is over age 18. Department of Human Services says 80% have gambled in some form in the last year (from a survey), so that leaves 3.2 million. I can't find any statistics, but I'd wager only 25% of them used pulltabs (810k), and the rest were weekend poker games with the guys, office pools, Vegas, lottery, etc....
