The Supreme Court issued its decision in the Citizens United case in 2010. John Edwards is on trial for acts alleged to have been committed in 2008. Citizens United had nothing to do with and didn't make possible contributions Bunny Mellon or anyone else made to Edwards' 2008 campaign ...or otherwise..
