an uneducated populace?

I have always thought that "paying for other people's children" to go to school was one of the strangest complaints I have ever heard. If you really want to see how that works for you move to one of the southern states that's answer to segregation was to make school optional. It's not the heat it's the stupidity.

It is in societies best interest as a whole that children are educated (how well we are achieving that can be debated) they then can...

Although my Neanderthal legislators probably won't surprise me.

He said there were the "deserving poor" and the "undeserving poor."

As Ms. Ehrenreich points out a lot of the poor fall into the undeserving poor. But a lot of the stereotypes bandied about are classifying them as deserving poor.

Raising the minimum wage will help but no one is going to be living large on minimum wage.

is that unless there has been a change in the Fair Labors Standards act only exempt Federal Employees have the option of compensation time of over time.

I may not be remembering this correctly but I seem to recall a lot of informal juggling when I supervised exempt and non exempt employees.

with local knowledge of the Minnesota flair for the understated and which ones aren't.

The "The want you to pay more" add was so over the top for hysteria and drama we started laughed.

Adds with non midwest regional accents also sound a bit off.

I guess that would be my suggestion to anyone looking at the ads if they were produced by someone "not from around here" my guess is they don't fly.

aren't we killing those with the minimum wage hike?

These aren't really investments in higher quality jobs.

journalists. He takes the care to explain policy implications on an easily understood although still eye glazing level.

Thank you for a very good article.

She is a great resource and I have been a fan since then. My grandson who is 7 months loves watching the birds at the feeder. I thought it was a great way to get him interested in wild life as early as possible. Now if they only had bird Duplos.
