MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
It is an excruciatingly annoying mark of Democrats' political sensitivity these days to always confess their supposed sins when commenting on the sins of Republicans. When we say "...this is [not] something limited to Republicans (plenty of Democrats have practiced this same thing over the years)," I'd be grateful to have it laid out exactly who these know-nothing Democrats are who voiced unsubstan-tiated and unfounded charges related to sensitive national security issues, refused...
BTW....all voters will want to review the Bachmann essay in THE NEW YORKER, August 15 and 22, 2011. p 54ff. Ryan Lizza. "Leap of Faith". THEN we'll have something to chew over
The most interesting part of the next months into the fall and winter will be to see how they get rid of Bachmann and Romney....those who control the Republican party these days want nothing to do with either of those two....and they'll fall by the wayside (or be pushed over the edge) like Pawlenty....Perry's the MAN!.......I can see it now on theMall: Washington....Lincoln.....both Roosevelts....Ike.....Perry.......our long line of national heroes!
Republican calls for a balanced budget amendment (or doomestic policy) are today what they always have been: a charade. There was nothing more than hot-air bloviation to their announcements and pronouncements about it in the days of Newt Gingrich and the Contract on America than there is to it today. It is an organizing and fundraising tool only. They had have many opportunities to propose such an amendment/policy and (in the case of amendment) send it to the states. They had not done it...
The proposed Balanced Budget Amendment, assorted "pro-life" legislation, the repugnant Defense of Marriage Act and all their cousins were/asre never intended to be enacted into law. They are tools to raise fear and loathing...and considerable campaign dollars...and nothing more. Everytime this stuff shows up in public discourse we play THEIR game, instead of the real one. Same thing with the phony/artifical/manufactured/artifical/erstaz "debt ceiling" hysteria: it's not the real issue...
And by the way, the principles by which the gentleman from New Hampshire, Mr. Cravaack, should continue to stand would be what, really?? Certainly not those by which he declared one of the nation's and state's best legislators unfit for office and arranged for his political demise.
I know who Republican leaders are in this state--and nation, too, as far as that goes. I know where the Republican state office office and have a pretty decent idea where their money comes from and who it goes to. I know how they caucus and govern themselves. The same can be said about the DFL party here in Minnesota. I know all the same stuff about them. "T-Partiers"??? Have no idea who their leaders are, or where their money comes from, really. Have no idea how to find them or how...
Justice Thomas, however, accepting, as he does, gifts (say a $15,000 bust of Lincoln) and social amenities (say, from a right-wing political supporter in Arizona)might want to be a bit more circumspect about conflict-of-interest questions. Right-wing commentators know that they would never in a million years allow, say, Justice Hillary Clinton, to accept gifts or social amenities from left-wing/moderate supporters who may likely have issues before he Court. Republican commentary about...
Elections matter. We better get to work.
Re: #3 above, I know we are all grateful that persons of conscience in the Republican and Libertarian Parties (whether one or the same)refrain, as a matter of policy and conscience, and as a reflection of their oft-trumpeted family- and faith-values, from gratutous insults, denigrations, or unsupported-by-fact snide insinuations, based on gender, sexual orientation, race, having a different opinion from the afore-mentioned Reps or Libs, status with regard to possessing money, or national...
