The outline of events is good, except I don't think the union has voted again since last summer. I believe the 15 months figure is off a bit. The strike started in August 2011 and fifteen months later would be November of this year. I haven't heard about an election recently. If I am correct, this is a minor matter, since the gist of the development of using lockouts remains. The archbishop's letter to priests is a classic example of "the iron fist in the velvet glove." No man smart enough to be ordained a priest would now dare approach the archbishop with reservations about the church position on same sex marriage. And, the letter is all couched "in Christian Love!"
Discussions about minimum wage always face the problem of trying to apply a "one size fits all" solution to a diverse society. I agree with the writer, but would add that both the company and the union are powerful entities that can hold out for a long time. If ACS had a good year with replacements, it may be time for the union to think about taking the latest offer. I don't know if the union has the workers' best interests or its own at the forefront of its considerations.
