MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
If they convene this esteemed group of elected officials again, Parry and Ortman might be wanting to know if they can declare martial law. Subpoenas? Really?
Spot on, #8!
#11, go to any regional city in Minnesota and take a look in the parking lot of a motel to see how many highway construction company vehicles are there overnight. Those folks all lose their jobs as well in short order if the state shuts down.
These elected officials have had five months to get their work done. Unless you are one of those in the top two percent of Minnesotans, based on a taxable income of $250k or more, most of us don't have four or five months to...
Oops...my comments are directed at Mr. Larson (#12), not #11...
Businesses that derive a portion of their sales from customers who are either employees of the state or contractors working on behalf of the state will also be affected. Small-town hotels, restaurants and gas stations would likely bear the brunt. Since the copiers won't be running, the companies that are paid to repair and replace them will also have more free time.
It will be interesting to see if this drags out into the late summer and fall and see what school districts decide to do...
The principle the Republicans espouse of shrinking government and making it less intrusive has been contradicted by some pet social issues that are anything but not intrusive. Most voters are smart enough to see and understand the contradiction.
Bradlee Dean could not have bought the amount of free publicity he has received.
Bernice, if you have a family member has a condition or disease where an experimental device or drug comes along that *might* make a difference for the better, most will want to take that chance.
Redistricting is discussed in both the U.S. and Minnesota Constitutions.
The courts will end up deciding this one. Again.
I also noticed she missed repealing farm subsidies. Maybe its because she wouldn't get a nice check from the taxpayers anymore? Not to mention losing Iowa right out of the chute.
The last point on the list is laughable. What that tells me is that she just wants to repeal the United States and replace it with her version of what The People's Republic of Michele should look like. What an embarrassment.
Many charities are loathe to speak out publicly out of fear of alienating potential donors, and/or losing funding support from current contributors.
