MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Because I immediately remove all spadeas from the newspaper without looking at them. A spadea could offer me $10,000 just for calling a toll-free number and I would miss out on the offer. So I didn't know about this until now.
It obviously raises a TON of interesting questions on journalism ethics and business in the 21st century. I'm not going to dive into that pool except to observe that this could have been handled better.
I mainly want to say that as a former reporter who...
He certainly would be expected to know more about who's in Congress, by virtue of being a member himself. But his military background has nothing to do with it.
I don't know where Ray lives, but David's observation on streetcar development (or lack thereof) seems on target. Here's a page where you can find a 1946 Mpls streetcar map:

Some comedian, I forget who, used that as a bit -- that subdivisions were inevitably named after whatever was bulldozed to make way for the houses. If the subdivision is called "Shady Knoll," you can bet they razed a forest and flattened a hill to build it.
I'm on the board of the Franconia Sculpture Park, one of the organizations whose site got a makeover in this year's challenge. This is a great, great piece of giving by The Nerdery. In today's world, your website is a crucial piece of your toolkit. For groups like ours to get this kind of professional help is an amazing gift.
Never stop doing these. Never. When you've strolled every street in the metro, start over again.
If a crook steals money and gives it to a charity, why should they get to keep it? That makes absolutely no sense.
As a proud graduate of Fergus Falls High School, I am delighted to see our encroachment on this news report. We move slowly but steadily.
I don't like reporting this stuff, but the facts speak pretty strongly. As an industry, newspapers are in big trouble.
But I hold out hope for the Star Tribune. Based on the reporting of my MinnPost colleague David Brauer, they seem to be doing better than the industry as a whole.
.... back in the '60s, when there used to be articles speculating about how the American worker of the future would only have to work 10 hours a week, and what ever would we do with all that leisure time?
By the way, Liz, your kicker on this piece is spectacular.
